The prolific Asus has left us the new ASUS TUF Gaming H3, a mid-high-end headset strongly focused on this area with which they have tried to take care of all the details without losing sight of the price. We have been testing them for several days and we have put a lot of cane, so here we bring you a review in which we will tell you about our experience, conclusions and a couple of surprises. Let's start!

The Asus TUF Gaming line offers a range of products from motherboards to laptops and peripherals designed for the most die-hard gamers.

Unboxing and design

The product presentation is in a matte finish case with gloss on featured items like Asus and TUF Gaming logos plus featured services like Teamspeak Certified, Discord Certified and PS4 Support. The model name of headphones, ASUS TUF Gaming H3, appears vertically justified next to the image of the same.

On the right and left sides of the box we can find on the one hand a short list of technical specifications in 35 languages and on the other the name of the manufacturer and model of the product.

Finally, on the back of the box we find an infographic on the ASUS TUF Gaming H3 in which some of its main characteristics are highlighted such as:

  • Light weight designed to play in total comfort. Stainless steel head ring and clamp for better stability and durability. Exclusive 50mm watertight headphone camera and ASUS Essense drivers for immersive audio. Certified microphone for clear communication. Cross-platform support for PC, Mac, PS4, Nintendo Swich, Xbox One and mobile phones.

Another aspect to consider about the ASUS TUF Gaming H3 line is that although we brought you the dark gray model for the review, the range offers a total of four shades: silver, metal gray, red and blue.

The total content of the box is summarized in:

  • ASUS TUF Gaming H3 Earphones 3.5mm Extended Y Cable for Microphone and Headphones (Splitter) Quick Start Guide. Warranty Notice

ASUS TUF Gaming H3 Headphone Design

The first thing we have noticed is in fact its reduced weight of 294g. This is generally taken with some reluctance in electronics but in the case of TUF Gaming it is not synonymous with poor quality or a bad signal.

The arch of the headphones is made of stainless steel with a matte finish that is visible in the regulation area under the protective band. This one has the TUF Gaming brand stamped on the arch with a shiny finish and some relief when you run your fingers through it.

The material of the band has a very soft touch and appearance of leather and quite padded by memory foam on the bottom, which is what most interests us most.

We have a total of 12 height adjustable points and on the inside we find bright ASUS logo and R and L embossed to indicate their position.

Another detail is that the headphone cable is visible before and after passing through the band to communicate the left and right earphones. In these areas the cable is lined with braided fiber to protect it from wear and tear problems. These connect to each earphone at the top.

Moving on to the headphones, they are black with different material finishes. On the one hand on the external sides we find the TUF Gaming logo with a satin resin finish on a matte plastic surface that in turn has a scraped effect. The next area is matte plastic and just before joining the pads we find a glossy black plastic band.

The headphones have vertical folding flexibility and the arch allows a slight twist to the front and back, which although it can do so, we recommend that you do not force these types of positions as always. Likewise, the fact that the arch is made of stainless steel and not plastic as in other models can leave you alone. Splitting is not going to split.

Regarding the padding, it is also black with a soft and flexible synthetic leather imitation leather feel. As you can imagine it is removable to facilitate cleaning. The interior pavilion is quite wide. In our case, the ears fit us with total comfort and we still have plenty of space, which is appreciated compared to models that tend to make us feel imprisoned or make us sweat shortly after having them on. Protecting the steel from the internal speakers we have a fine black fabric mesh attached to the padding.

Also to mention is that integrated in the left earpiece we find two elements: a volume wheel and a microphone mute button. This detail will be something that all those players who do not like to have the regulator integrated in the middle of the cable will greatly appreciate since it is virtually an inconvenience less.

Regarding the microphone, it has made a very good impression on us. Its only flaw is that it is not removable or retractable, but the quality of its finishes is ten. Covering the silicone that leads the microphone we find a flexible black steel arm that leads to the microphone. This is an internal unidirectional which solves the problems of capturing something other than our voice.

Finally, we have the question of the cable. This is also not removable or braided, which we can understand to be a disappointment for some. Its total length is 1.30m and ends in a 3.5mm Jack connection of microphone and audio. This makes it compatible for terminals such as mobile phones and tablets, while for laptops that have divided channels we find the adapter extender cable.

The extended Y cable, unlike the headphones themselves, does come braided in fiber. This is something that has caught our attention a lot since, if one has it, why not the other? We must assume that the extender is designed for a much more sedentary gaming environment or go through hidden recesses behind or under our desk and thus protect it more. This cable adds another 1.30m in length so the total sum is more than enough.

Regarding its connectors, the 3.5 audio and microphone jacks are reinforced in the PVC socket, which in addition to wrapping them, has graphic icons of a microphone and a headphone for immediate recognition. It is a nice touch.

Putting ASUS TUF Gaming H3 headphones to use

ASUS TUF Gaming H3 headphones are plug & play . They do not require any kind of necessary software or driver. We have used them both to play, listen to music and talk to friends and the devices to which we have connected them have been PC, TV, mobile and tablet. They're not passive noise-canceling headphones, but the materials do provide some isolation from external sound.

The 5.1 stereo sound we get is nice and crisp. We are aware of the preference of many users towards 7.1 but we must tell you that thanks to the size of its hermetic 50mm ASUS Essense camera, in addition to being clear and homogeneous, it has a certain depth in the bass that is noticeable without “absorbing” the rest of the tones. On the other hand, you can get 7.1 via Windows Sonic in Windows 10. Likewise, those who like us continue to have a predilection for 5.1 stereo sound will find a great ally in the ASUS TUF Gaming H3. We have not found any inconvenience in this field, neither playing nor using Discord.

Another aspect has been the comfort achieved thanks to its memory foam material. The low weight of 294g together with the wide space we have in the headphones means that they do not tire us at all or are uncomfortable in some areas. Regarding the microphone, since it only has a receiver on its internal side, the pickup of the voice is very specific and also avoids inconveniences such as the absorption of distant ambient sound (other people, noise…). This is a detail that together with the resistance of the flexible steel mesh microphone has made a very good impression on us despite not being removable.

Final words and conclusions about ASUS TUF Gaming H3

Without a doubt one of the best headphones we've tested to date. On the other hand, since all the other wiring zones are lined except for the one of the earpiece itself, we have missed the fact that the main cable was fiber to have been perfect, or perhaps somewhat longer than the 1.30m provided by default and that in a work computer environment can be short depending on where we have the shot. On the other hand, the microphone being retractable or removable would have made them round headphones.

We recommend reading our guide on the best headphones on the market

In any case, they are comfortable, lightweight gaming headphones, made of good materials and that can last a long time if we take care of them. Its finishes, weight and sound quality and voice capture have left us with a very good taste in the mouth. The question of its price is valuable. For headphones between € 60 and € 70, the ASUS TUF Gaming H3 seems to us an option with quality features without reaching three-figure prices.
