Asus Z270 Prime-A technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The Asus Z270 Prime-A comes in very compact packaging. On its cover we find an image of the motherboard, model name, its Asus Aura lighting system and the great variety of certificates it incorporates.

Already in the back we have all the most important technical characteristics detailed.

Inside we find the following bundle:

  • Asus Z270 Prime-A motherboard.Backplate. Instruction manual and quick guide. Installation kit for Intel processors. CD disk with drivers. Set of SATA cables. Cable SLI HB.

The Asus Z270 Prime-A is an ATX- format motherboard for the LGA 1151 socket and is compatible with both seventh-generation Intel Kaby Lake and sixth-generation Intel Skylake processors.

The board is sleek in design and blends the black PCB nicely with the white accents on the rear connection guards and chipset heatsink.

The motherboard features two zones with cooling: power phases and Z270 chipset. It has nothing more and nothing less than 8 + 2 + 2 power phases supported by Digi + technology. Among them it incorporates the advantages of Asus Pro Clock, digital control voltage, the PRO Clock chip and a reinforced socket. All this reduces the loading time, reduces the jitter in extreme overclocked conditions and improves the stability of the system .

The Asus Z270 Prime-A It is very friendly with 3D printing to allow users to design different parts to give the plate a very personal and exclusive touch, thanks to which each of them can be unique and different.

Another of the great protagonists is its advanced RGB Aura LED lighting system, which is present in 5 independent areas, providing us with a total of nine different effects from which to choose

  • Static: Always on Breathing: Slow cycle on and off Strobe: Turns on and off Color cycle: Goes from one color to another Music effect: Responds to the rhythm of music CPU temperature: Changes the color according to the load of the CPU Comet Flash Off

It has a total of 4 DDR4 RAM DIMM slots that are compatible with a maximum of 64 GB with frequencies up to 3866 Mhz and compatible with the XMP 2.0 profile. Of course with Dual Chanel technology so that we can get the most out of our new processor.

The motherboard allows us to connect a wide variety of fans that we can adjust its curve from the BIOS. There is also a head that allows us to connect a liquid cooling pump, without using a MOLEX cable.

The Asus Z270 Prime-A offers us the possibility of mounting a MultiGPU system. All this thanks to the two PCIe 3.0 to x16 slots with 2 way SLI and CrossFire 3 Way support. That is, we can perfectly mount two GTX 1080 or three RX 480 Strix and get the most out of these graphics cards.

To expand with extra cards we can use any of the four PCI Express x1 connections. More than enough to expand with everything we want: video capture, high-end sound card, controllers for hard drives, etc…

It is also important to know that it incorporates two slots for M.2 connections and in this way you can install any 2242/2260/2280/22110 format disk (42/60/80 and 110mm). This is ideal for taking advantage of high-speed M.2 NVMe technology.

To this are added the 6 SATA III 6 Gb / s ports so we will not lack storage capacity, as a detail we see that it no longer incorporates any SATA Express connection (we do not use 99.99% of users at all) and with no U.2 Slot connection (we would not have seen its incorporation badly).

It incorporates an improved 8-channel Realtek ALC S1220A signed sound card . Among its most interesting features is the compatibility with amplifiers for headphones, DTS technology for both speakers and headphones, an EMI cover that protects against electrical noise and compatibility with high impedance speakers.

Among its rear connections we find:

  • 1 x PS / 2 keyboard / mouse combo port.

    1 x DVI-D.

    1 x DisplayPort.

    1 x HDMI.

    1 x Network (RJ45).

    1 x Optical S / PDIF Out.

    5 x Audio Jack (s).

    1 x USB 3.1 Type A.

    1 x USB 3.1 Type C.

    4 x USB 3.0.
