Asus zenfone selfie review - Smartphone 2024

Since this summer in social networks we are seeing that there is a great fever for the new Asus Zenfone. One of its most interesting terminals is the Asus Zenfone Selfie with Snapdragon 616 processor, 3GB of internal memory and 13 MP dual camera. Possibly the smartphone with the best multimedia system on the market. Asus Zenfone 2 or Zenfone Selfie?

Asus opts for a simple, compact and minimalist presentation. On the front of the box is the image of the smartphone and combines the colors of the terminal that houses it: pink. On the back we have a sticker that indicates the serial number, IMEI and the part number of the product.

The Asus Zenfone Selfie (ZE551KL) presents measures of 56.5 x 77.2 x 10.8 mm and a weight of 170 grams, without a doubt a billet phone. One of the great advantages of this new Zenfone range is the use of both original and fun colors for young people such as blue, pink, gold and red as elegant in the black or white version. The model that we have received is that of the color pink. We have shown it to the nearby female audience and they have loved it.

On the sides we do not have any buttons, all of them are distributed between the upper area (power button and a minijack output), the lower area (microphone and miniUSB output) and finally, in the rear area (volume up and down button next to the camera).

This terminal is not unibody, so we can remove the cover where we will be able to access a dual SIM and the removable 3000 mAh battery.

Asus Zenfone Selfie mounts a 5.5-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (69% is screen) that will offer us good color fidelity and Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Accompanied by the 1.7 GHz eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, along with 3 GB of RAM and an Adreno 405 graphics card that will allow us to play any game on the market.

Regarding its internal storage we have 32 GB. On connectivity, we have support for both 2G / 3G / 4G LTE lines, WiFi 802.11 AC connection, FM Radio and A-GPS / GLONASS. And the NFS chip…? No one knows…

ZenUI operating system and interface

On the operating system we have the Lollipop 5.0.2 (we could already have the latest one) and the custom interface of Asus ZenUI that although it has an attractive design and good performance will not be in good taste for everyone, since among those who I include myself I like more pure Android.

A negative point is that it has many pre-installed applications, some useful others that we will not use.

Regarding performance, we find that there are applications that are not entirely fine. When other terminals with less performance offer a better experience, although a priori this is a problem that can be fixed

Multimedia: Cameras, selfie, selfie and more selfie !!

The photographic section is where the new Asus Zenfone Selfie stands out the most. It comes equipped with two 13 megapixel sensors signed by Toshiba that allows us to make really good captures. Like all current mobiles, where it is weakest in night photos, but the result is outstanding.

Going into more detail, the Asus Zenfone Selfie is the first smartphone to feature a front camera that has f / 2.2 with dual LED flash and a 24mm focal length. And in the rear camera it has an f / 2.0 aperture, with a wide angle, 28mm focal length and dual LED flash.

Just as we have criticized the overpopulation of applications natively, we take our hats off with the camera application, being very complete thanks to its great variety of effects and customization of each shot.

Although the sound is located in the rear area, it gives a good performance when curved.

Final words and conclusion

The Asus Zenfone Selfie is one of the best smartphones in the 300 euro range that neither the BQ Aquaris M5 nor Motorola Moto G offers. We really liked its technical characteristics, with a Snapdragon 616 processor, 5.5-inch Full HD screen, 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. When analyzing it, we have noticed that this terminal is overloaded with power although it has some lags in some applications, so we understand that in future updates, these failures will have a solution.

The multimedia section is the one that takes the cake since the two 13MP cameras with Toshiba sensor are a treat, and with selfies nobody wins. Another point in its favor is its photography program and its manual mode.

As points to improve we find Lollipop 5.0.1 since it could be updated to its latest version. We also know that its ZenUI interface will not be liked by everyone for being excessively personalized… it would improve much more with a pure Android and without so many pre-installed applications. The incorporation of a fingerprint reader and NFS technology is an essential requirement in mobiles of this caliber.

In short, if you want a large phone, with an original design and the best in photography, the Asus Zenfone Selfie is the best candidate. Currently we will find it in online stores for a price of less than 300 euros.
