It's barely two days until the official launch of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor range for Enthusiast PCs. However, the latest top-of-the-range benchmarks, the AMD Threadripper 1950X, have now been leaked.

45% higher performance than Intel Skylake X

The benchmarks that have been performed include a total of four tests, three of which were performed in multi-core and single-threaded modes, while the fourth was only performed in multi-threaded. The results were pulled from the CPU Monkey database.

First off, the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, with 16 cores and 32 threads, far outperforms the Intel Skylake X model with 10 cores and a similar price. In fact, the Threadripper outperforms the Intel Core i9-7900X by 42% in Cinebench R15 and by 47% in the other three tests. Given these results, we would not be surprised to see Intel lowering the prices of the new 10-core Core i9 in the coming weeks.

As for the single-core or single-thread test, the Core i9 7900X keeps its head high thanks to the high speed reached by each of its cores in Turbo mode - 4.5 GHz, and ends up ahead of the Threadripper between a 3 and 9%.

All this shows us that there is not a huge difference between the AMD Zen microarchitecture and the Intel Skylake. However, what seems to give Skylake X an advantage in single-core testing seems to be the result of higher clock frequencies thanks to Intel's 14nm process. But AMD will most certainly catch up as the 14nm Globalfoundries process used by the company matures.

In the following graph made by the guys at WCCFTECH you can see the entire AMD Threadripper range, along with their cores, frequencies, the TDP and the recommended retail price.
