IPads and Android tablets cannot run Windows applications locally, but they can access the desktop of a Windows PC remotely. The same applies in the case of smartphones.

The Redmond company offers its official Remote Desktop app for iOS and Android, which is mainly aimed at companies, so if you are trying to do this from home, you should resort to other remote desktop tools.

Below we will detail several ways to access the Windows desktop either from a tablet or a smartphone.

Windows desktop with Microsoft Remote Desktop

As we said before, this application for iPad / iPhone and Android was created mainly for business use, because its server is not available in the standard or Home versions of Windows, only in the Professional and Enterprise editions.

If you have one of those versions, you will have to configure port forwarding and dynamic DNS to access your PC from a place that is outside the local network. You also have the possibility to use a VPN.

The process is not easy at all and the following alternative that we offer you will probably seem much more comfortable to use.

TeamViewer

If you have the standard edition of Windows or do not want to make complicated adjustments, TeamViewer is a great application to remotely access Windows, and not only to your PC, but to any computer that in turn has the TeamViewer application installed in the system.

To use it, you will simply have to download and run TeamViewer on your computer, and configure face- to- face access that will allow you to access your desktop without having to use the codes displayed on your screen.

To connect to your PC, simply install the TeamViewer mobile app and log in with the details in the TeamViewer window. The app also offers a version for Mac and Linux, so you can remotely control any type of computer from your tablet.

Other alternatives

Other options for connecting remotely to Windows include Splashtop, a tool that was considered faster than TeamViewer in terms of the stability and fluidity of remote connections. Unfortunately, to have it on iOS you will have to pay 5 euros.

We cannot end the article without mentioning Chrome Remote Desktop, the remote desktop solution integrated into Google's own web browser.

This app will allow you to control your PC remotely from another device with Windows, Mac, Linux or Chrome OS.

It is also believed that the company is preparing a tool for Android that would allow any smartphone or tablet user to access their PC or laptop.
