As we all know, our system generates a large number of temporary files that, for practical purposes, all they do is fill our unit with useless crap. Well something similar happens with our web browsers. Surely we have all noticed that every time we open a new page, it asks us if we accept the privacy policy and if we want the site to store cookies on our computer.

Well today we will see what we must do to occasionally clean everything we have stored in our browser. We may even be able to improve the fluidity of the web pages that we access and that they load faster.

What is a cookie

A cookie or cookie in Spanish is a small portion of information sent by a web page and which will be stored in our browser. In this way the website will be able to consult the previous activity that we have had in it.

The functions that a cookie performs are basically three:

  • Remember shortcuts: perhaps the most basic information, to remember if we have ever visited this page before. In this way the page will know whether to show us certain content that it considers important to us based on what we have visited on it. Remember login username and password: if we want, it will also store information about a login we have made on the page. So when we access again, we will see that the user and password boxes are already filled in to facilitate access. Know information about our browsing habits: basically they collect information about what we do from our browser, sites we access, information we read or see. Looking at it objectively is a certain privacy violation towards us, and this is why when we access a website for the first time it asks us to accept or deny access to cookies.

Clear browser cache

Well, we already know what our web browsers store in part about what we do. In addition, they also store other types of internal information that is not useful to explain. But all this has a solution by gradually eliminating it.

Delete cookies and browser cache in Microsoft Edge

Let's start with the Microsoft browser, which is possibly the one that many users of this platform use. Let's see the steps we must follow:

  • We open our browser and go to the configuration button, located in the upper right corner. Now we must go to the " Privacy and security " section. In the upper area we will see a button to " Choose what should be deleted ".

After clicking on it, we can select what things we want to delete from this browser. If we activate everything, then we will erase absolutely everything and it will be as if we had installed the browser again.

  • Browsing history: which pages we have visited (delete). Cookies: what we have already discussed in the previous section (delete). Cache files and data - internal data about browsing and browser (clear). Recently closed tabs (delete). Download history (delete). Author fill data: are the credentials entered on websites and other information to be entered by us (think carefully whether to delete or not). Passwords (think carefully whether to delete or not). Multimedia licenses: licenses and certificates for the reproduction of web content (think carefully whether to delete or not). Website permissions: permissions we have chosen when we first access a site (think carefully whether to delete or not).

After choosing the options we want, we will only have to click on "Delete"

In addition, in this browser, we can even automatically erase all the data when we close the application.

Delete cookies and browser cache in Google Chrome

We now turn to the Google browser. The operation is quite similar, although the option is even more visible than in the previous case.

  • Well, click on the corresponding configuration button, which will also be located in the upper right corner. Now we go to " More tools " where a pop-up window will be displayed. We must click on " Clear browsing data "

In this case, we will obtain more detailed information about each of the options that we are going to delete in the browser. We can also select above the time interval from which we want to delete the data.

If we go to the advanced settings, we can also choose the options in the previous window in a more detailed way. We recommend going here to see in detail what we want to delete and what not.

In addition, it shows us information about how much storage space we have occupied by the cache. We will not explain each of the options, because they are basically the same as in the previous case but expressed differently.

Delete cookies and browser cache in Google Chrome

Well, how could it be otherwise, we will have the options in the upper right corner. But we are NOT going to go here yet.

  • We are going to click on the button with the three bars and a crooked corresponding to " View history, saved bookmarks and more " Now we must click on " History "

  • We will give " Clear recent history ". A window will appear in which we can choose practically the same options as in the previous cases.

In "site preferences" the passwords of the websites that we have accessed will be stored. If you don't want to lose them, don't check this option.

We can also do this from another site in greater detail:

  • Now click on the end icon to open the options. Here we click on " Options ". Now we go to " Privacy and security " to see all the options about the data management of our browser. We will have the options fairly distributed, so we will have to access each of them to see in detail what we are going to delete and what not.

This is the way to clear cache memory of the web browser that we are using. If we want the Internet to know less about us we will have to pay attention to these options and accept without thinking the privacy policy of the websites.
