One of the great advantages of Linux over Windows is the enormous customization it offers the user, from using various desktop environments to customizing the smallest details such as the different system icons. Precisely on that last one we are going to focus on this tutorial on How to change the Unity launcher icon in Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus.

Learn how to change the Unity launcher icon

Many users don't like the look of Unity, one of the things we can do to better adapt it to our preferences is to change the Unity launcher icon. It is a very simple process and we only have to follow some steps that we detail below.

First of all we are going to look for an icon that we like, the important thing is that its dimensions are 128 x 128 pixels so that it is displayed correctly, it must also have a transparent background, be in PNG format and we have to name it as launcher_bfb.png . We leave you an example of a valid icon.

Now we have to go to the folder where we have saved the icon, we can do it simply by opening the corresponding folder, clicking the right mouse button and selecting "open terminal here".

We can also do everything via terminal, open one and enter the command

cd / icon path

Once we are in the path of the icon that we want to put in the Unity launcher, we can only write the following command in the terminal:

sudo rm /usr/share/unity/icons/launcher_bfb.png cp./launcher_bfb.png / usr / share / unity / icons /

This will remove the default icon and replace it with the one we have chosen to give our system a more personal touch.
