How to change the on-screen keyboard

Android phones are somewhat more customizable and different from each other than their Apple competition, however, most distributions share some standards. To change the on-screen keyboard of Android devices we have several routes.

We can go to the application grid or main menu (depending on where you have it) and click directly on the Settings icon.

Settings button in the app grid

Also, we can find the settings in the notification bar. Most Android devices can and only have to lower the bar and look for the settings button. Below we leave you a support image.

Once we are in the Settings screen, we will have to find the control that determines how the keyboard will be. It is usually linked to the language and the text input. In the device we have we find the keyboard in the General Administration section. The description just indicates language and text input, so it's not very difficult to find.

General adjustments

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S8, to change the keyboard we will have to go down one more level until we reach the keyboard options.

Change the active keyboard

Once we are well positioned within the Settings , we just have to look for the option to change the keyboard. In the case of this device it is the option called Default Keyboard. When pressing the option, a drop-down will appear with all the keyboards that we can choose as the main one.

Language and keyboard options

In this mobile, the Samsung Keyboard comes from the default keyboard, but you can download other apps and use them equally. For example, I use the Google Gboard keyboard and special language versions (separate apps) , since it seems to me a very complete application.

Different keyboards usable on mobile

On the other hand, in the main settings we also have Language, which does not directly affect the keyboard. This option is used to indicate to the system in which language the applications must be.

I have it as Spanish (Spain) and then English (United States) . This means that the apps will try to be in Spanish from Spain and if they could not because it did not exist, they will be configured as United States English .

Customize the keyboard

To customize the keyboard, we will have to access the implicit options within any keyboard app. To access them, we can press the On-Screen Keyboard option (on this mobile) and select the keyboard app we use. Then the customization options we have will open.

Another way to access the options is from the keyboard itself. When deploying it in any chat, we will have an icon to enter directly into the personalization screen.

The theme of personalization is unique to each person and each one will activate what they like the most, so we leave it at your disposal. It can take between 15 minutes and 1 hour, but the result will be appreciated, since you will have a keyboard to suit you.

We recommend you look at each feature, squeeze each option and leave nothing to chance. The more you invest in the keyboard being yours, the better you will use it.

For example, there are people who like to have the number line on the keyboard (myself included), but there are others who prefer to have more screen. Another example is people who unconsciously use English keyboards and get used to finding the "ñ" by pressing the "n" (curious, but real).

In the end, the most important thing is that it adapts to your tastes and needs. If you explore the configuration you will see that there are a lot of things that you can change.

Options adjacent to the keyboard

Remember that this part of the tutorial is made with an Android device Samsung Galaxy S8, so it may not be the same as yours. Each brand has its own unique design lines, and that also groups customization options.

WE RECOMMEND YOU 2020 iPhones will use thinner screens

At this point we will briefly summarize the options we have. You should try to do the same and explore what options your mobile offers you. Maybe you come across a feature you didn't know you had, but love.

Options adjacent to the keyboard

The On- Screen Keyboard we have already seen in the previous point, so we will move on to the next option. The Physical Keyboard is what we have discussed in other articles and consists simply of connecting a Bluetooth keyboard to the mobile. By linking both devices we can activate the option to Show the Keyboard Button .

Options adjacent to the keyboard

What remains is the following screen of options.

First we will talk about the Autocomplete Service , which is a unique option of this device. It is used to store passwords and others and to be able to autofill forms with this data only if Samsumg Pass is activated (Iris control, fingerprint…).

Then, we have the Spell Check, which will propose words to you as you write to avoid mistakes, that is, prediction of writing. Also, we will have the personal dictionary, which will count as valid different words that do not exist. These two options are special to the Google Gboard keyboard .

The Voice and Text to Pronounce section is quite self-explanatory. It is used to configure voice input and transcription. We can see the input speed, tone and language, among other things.

Finally, we have the Mouse / Pad area, which similar to previous points is intended for Bluetooth mice. The Cursor Speed assigns how much distance it travels as measured by the sensor and the Main Mouse Button what order the mobile receives when pressed.

Final words

Although they are not a few words, changing the keyboard that we use on the screen is quite simple. More important than that is to customize it to our liking.

Our recommendation is that you always try to do it, that is, customize apps, objects and everything around you. This way you will have an experience explicitly for yourself, you will enjoy more and you will be much more agile and efficient.

We hope this tutorial has helped you and you have understood it easily. If you have any questions, feel free to write them down here. We will reply to you as soon as we can.
