Connect a screen to a laptop
There are several ways to connect a screen to a laptop, either wirelessly or via cable.
Through ports
We refer to the video output, that is, to transmit the image or sound, or both together, depending on the port we choose. The most common ports are HDMI and USB-C, although we find DisplayPort as a less recurring option, but still valid. We also find the VGA port to transmit only image.
That said, there is a differentiation between macOS and Windows when it comes to transmitting video and images. In the Apple system you will have to go to the system preferences menu and enter the screens option, there you can configure resolutions, among other things.
Normally, and regardless of the operating system, we will connect the screen via HDMI, for example, and the screen will be duplicated to the external one. Within Windows 10, you can choose if you want to extend, duplicate or only see it on the external screen. Personally, I always choose to duplicate because we can if we have to do some configuration on the PC, it will mess us up a bit.
Tell you that this method works even if the screen of our laptop is broken. Personally, I did it on a Retina Macbook whose screen had said "this far" and the liquid from the LCD spread throughout the display. I bought a HUB because I only had one USB-C port available and in that HUB came several USB ports, 1x HDMI and a port to charge the battery.
That remedy saved the life of the laptop, being able to continue using it. If you are going to buy one, it has everything you need, such as USB, HDMI and a port to charge the laptop. I bought one like this.

Wirelessly
Thanks to advances in technology, today we can connect our screen wirelessly with a television, for example. In this way, we do not have to be loaded with cables, nor are we going to depend on the model of the laptop: if the TV has the possibility of duplicating the screen and we have Windows 10, it is superfluous. To say that it is worth so much for desktop, as for laptop.
Unfortunately, older televisions, even if they are Smart TVs, may not have this technology. So make sure that the TV has this technology, otherwise you can always buy a dongle that allows this possibility. A Wi-Fi dongle connects via HDMI to the TV and an example is the Amazon Fire TV; you may experience some lag of sound or image.

Next, you have the steps you have to do to connect a screen to a laptop:
- You go to the notification area, located at the end of the taskbar.
- Now, you can do two things: go project or connect. If you are going to project, you can choose to duplicate, extend or show the screen in only 1 panel. If you are going to connect, a pop-up will open, searching for available wireless screens. Check that the TV or screen is ready to connect.
- If you choose to project, this menu will appear:
- If you choose to connect, the following will appear:
Personally, I prefer to use connect screen because it is more generic and in practice it has caused me less problems. When I doubled my television it did not respond the same, failing on many occasions. Obviously, this will depend on the TV model you have as well.

Adjustments
Sometimes we connect or project our screen and it doesn't display at a decent resolution, or the cut image is seen. I recommend that you make this small adjustment to check that everything is going well.
- Right click on the desktop and click on " Configure screen ". Once the window opens, look at the configuration of " multiple screens " or the same scale of the screen. These values may be failing and it is a "nuisance", I say this from experience.
