Currently, with the massive invention of electronic devices capable of connecting to the Internet and their use at younger ages, it increases the risk for security. Especially if these devices are used by children at an early age. The Windows 10 parental control system serves to establish certain limits in the way of using a computer. For example, the installation of games for adults, surfing the Internet, and other actions that our beloved children could do on our PC, leaving them in real trouble.
Parental control Windows 10
The first thing you have to know is that this system can be configured in two different ways:
- From our own team: through the Windows configuration panel From our Microsoft account: connecting from a browser to our Microsoft account we can configure the parental control of our team without the need to be physically in it.
What this system intends is that we create an account with certain credentials for each of the members of our family. In this way our main account will be protected and they will be able to access their own with certain established limitations.
To access Windows 10 parental control, the first thing we will have to do is go to the start menu.
- Click on the cogwheel with the name "Configuration" Next, in the option "Accounts" and we go to the option that says: "Family and other people"
Create a Windows 10 parental control account
Next, we are going to create an account for another user. Suppose you are a minor.
- We are going to click on the option "Add another relative" We will choose the option "Add a minor"
If this person does not have an email account, we click on the link with the same text. Then we fill in the new information for this person to be added.
Next, you will ask us to fill in the information with a phone number, or by using the option below by adding an alternate email address instead. We will choose the latter.
In the next window, certain options appear that, being a minor, we will leave them disabled.
If we click on next the account will have been created. At the moment our system will notify us that a new member has been added to the family. In addition, it will ask us to confirm the creation of the account by entering the password for our main email account.
After confirming with our password, the wizard will ask us questions to configure the credentials of the new account created. When the wizard finishes, it will inform us that we have to give our consent to the family member so that they can use their account. This is required for accounts under the age of 13.
The next thing we are going to do is give our son permission to use this account on the PC. To do this we log into the browser with the new account and the following screen will appear:
- Click on "my father can log in now". In this way, the browser will ask us to log in with the main email. On the new screen that appears after the login, we click "Continue"
Now, to finally give consent for our son to use his account, we will have to pay € 0.50 to his Microsoft account. To do this we add a payment method from this same screen and click save.
We can now continue to finish allowing access. Now we will have an active account so that another family member can access our team from their own account.
Manage family account settings
We will go back to the configuration panel and enter the “family and other people” section within the panel accounts option.
We get a link to "manage family settings online." We will press.
From our browser we can manage all the credentials available for the use of any family member's account.
We can manage different things:
- Set limits for screen time on both our computer and Xbox console Make purchases Use games and apps Browse web Microsoft account balance
Limit the use of applications and websites
If we go to "content restrictions" and the "Applications, games and multimedia content" tab , we can choose which applications will be allowed to use and which will not.
In the same way, we can allow or block certain websites so that you cannot access their content. We will only have to write the address of that site and give it to the + symbol that appears on the right.
Limit use in front of the screen
In the "screen time" tab we can activate this option to independently configure each of the hours and days in which our child can use the PC or the console.
The rest of the options are ready for you to explore yourself. As we can see, this system has improved significantly since its inception. There is no justification for saying that our child is uncontrolled or has made such mischief.
In addition, its configuration and management is very intuitive and easy to use, so if you have children, it is best to manage their actions through this useful tool.
