Corsair software: iCUE

We can't start this tutorial on the other hand: software is everything. The Corsair iCUE interface is the program by which we can calibrate all our peripherals both individually and with each other. It shows us when running the profile panel to edit the default or create new ones in addition to being able to select the Corsair mouse to customize specific aspects of each device.

Although iCUE is currently the most widely used software on brand peripherals, it is also possible that yours works with Corsair Utility Engine (CUE) instead.

Regardless of which of them you should use, you can see that in terms of aesthetics and structure, both have a similar distribution of menus and panels, so you will not be too disoriented.

The process of creating actions

Once inside the section of our mouse we will find both an options menu on the left and the mouse right in the center of the software with several options to show us all the views of its active buttons. Within the panel, the option that interests us here is Actions, since it is where the macro manager is located.

Create macros on the mouse

Once inside the first available option is Macros. Here we will find that iCUE is divided into several different tabs. On the one hand, we have the Actions menu where we can add all the macros we need, as well as a lower Library in which to save and import profiles on our computer.

Once we give the More (+) button and create a macro giving it a name, we must enter the commands within Recording Configuration. In our case we are going to create two types: Copy and Paste.

In Recording Configuration we select Record and then press the keys that make up the macro. The panel will appear yellow and will show us both the pressed buttons and the execution time. Once done, we press the button again to stop the recording.

As a small curiosity and although it is not a macro in itself, in this menu you can find a drop-down menu in which to create other actions such as writing a text at the press of a button, multimedia controls, programs, timers, etc.

The last thing we have left at this point is to click on the button to which we want to assign any of our created macros and link this action. The process is essentially very simple, although there are several more options that you can consider:

  • In Advanced Configuration you can set a delay or a key command that triggers the macro to run. It is also possible to set repetitions or chain this macro with another one after it. Finally iCUE allows us to set a sound at the beginning of the action itself in the Startup Settings panel.

Save created macros

The last aspect before closing this section refers to the saving of macros. Depending on your mouse model, it will be possible to save your customized configuration within its own local memory. This has several advantages since we can not only keep the actions linked to specific buttons but also our DPI, lighting or refresh rate calibration, among others.

However, if this is not your case, do not despair either. It is possible to save your personal settings in the software itself or in a physical file that you can import to your new PC.

Final words on creating macros in Corsair mice

Creating macros goes far beyond ideal keyboard layouts for beating up on Fortnite. It is true that they are commonly associated with the world of gaming, but the truth is that we can create macros within different profiles, being possible to make some specific for games, others for design, shortcuts for an editing program, etc.

In the case of Corsair and its iCUE we found that the distribution of the software is quite schematic and very accessible. The fact that Macros is the first option available in the Actions panel shows us that they are very aware of what the general public is looking for.

Unfortunately, not all mice or all keyboards are equally versatile. If you have a very basic Logitech model it is likely that this tutorial will not be able to do anything for you if you do not have compatible software. However, we do not like to leave you empty handed, so here are some programs that can help you get out of trouble:

The creation and linking of them is quick and easy, thus facilitating the process for the pioneers in the field. For our part, we hope that this mini-tutorial has been clear enough for you.
