The ideal characteristics of the mouse depend a lot on the use to be made of it, which is why a gaming mouse will not be the same as a mouse for office tasks, for example. Players often spend many hours with the PC, so ergonomics is of vital importance, from this it follows that a gaming mouse must have a size and shape that best suits the user's hand. Unfortunately there is no magic size since we all have different hands and we need different sizes. As for the weight, it is interesting that it is as low as possible, as this will result in less fatigue.

Laser sensors are the most widespread and have the advantage that they work well on almost all surfaces, on the other hand they do not offer the best precision especially in slow movements and suffer acceleration problems, this causes the range of movement of the cursor to vary depending on the speed with which we move the mouse, a great burden in competitive play. Infrared sensors maintain good behavior on different surfaces but are even more imprecise, so they are hardly used today.

Finally we have the optical sensors, these have the problem of adapting worse to surfaces, so the use of the mat will be almost mandatory. Its great advantage is that the precision is much higher than laser sensors and they do not have acceleration problems, which is why they are the ideal sensors for a gaming mouse.

We continue with the refresh rate, this indicates the frequency with which the information sent by the device is updated, and it is very important for the cursor movement to be accurate. The refresh rate is measured in Hz and can reach 1000 Hz, from 500 Hz the difference is very small, although a priori the higher the better.

Finally we have the latency that represents the time that the system will take to respond to a mouse movement, the less time it takes the better. Wireless mice have higher latencies than wired but this is not such a big difference unless we are competitive players, then we should definitely buy a wired mouse.
