How to avoid windows 10 anniversary update

Although Windows 10 Anniversary offers a series of interesting improvements, in these early stages we encountered some problems, such as freezing problems or a drop in bandwidth on the Internet connection.

With this scenario, it is possible that many Windows 10 users do not want to install the Anniversary Update yet, but how can we prevent the operating system from installing this update by itself? We know that it is a Windows 10 hobby to install updates without our permission, unless you specify it in the Control Panel. So, if you still continue with Windows 10 of all life and do not think about updating, here are two tips:

1 - Reschedule the installation of Windows 10 Anniversary.

Starting with Windows 10, updates are mandatory, which means that if you have changed your settings, Anniversary Update will be downloaded automatically. If so, the operating system will automatically set a time to install the update, which is usually the same day (hours after download).

In this case we are not going to be able to get rid of this update but we could postpone it indefinitely by rescheduling it.

  • We open Settings. We click on 'Update and security' Click on Windows Update. In "A restart has been scheduled", select the option 'Select a restart time'.

In this way we can choose the day and time that the update will be installed. We can do this indefinitely every time the indicated date approaches.

2 - Defer update

One option that is only enabled for Windows 10 Pro users is to be able to defer (Defer) any type of major update for up to a period of 4 months. To activate it we must do the following:

  • We open Configuration. We click on 'Update and security' Click on Windows Update. We go to 'Advanced Options' We mark the option Defer Updates

With this option activated, only minor updates will be installed, but the most important ones, such as the Anniversary Update, will not be installed on the computer.

These have been two very easy ways to get rid of Windows 10 Anniversary Update, at least until you are sure that your computer will not have problems after installing it.
