How to format a Lenovo laptop

Eliminate viruses or simply resume factory operation, it is always good to periodically format a Windows PC . Considering that you already have a backup of all your files, or at least the most important thing, performing the task is very simple on a computer running Windows 8.1, whether from Lenovo, Dell, Samsung, Acer or any other brand. See how it's done.

With the installation media

First of all, you must decide what type of formatting you want: with or without installation media. If you choose the second alternative, keep in mind that you need to have Windows on a DVD, which usually comes with your computer, or on a bootable Flash drive before proceeding.

No installation media

If you don't have or don't want to install Windows again, there are two ways to format your computer. In both cases, you must do the following:

Step 1. To access the Windows sidebar and go to settings;

Step 2. Click on "change settings";

Step 3. Open the menu “update and recovery;

Keeping your files intact

If the computer is not working well and you do not have a backup of your files, choose the first option, click "Introduction" in "Update your computer without affecting the files". So just follow the on-screen instructions for the program erase system and other items that may be causing the slowness. All your photos and videos will be preserved.

In some situations, the Windows Update option does not work with the system running, forcing you to go to advanced settings, in the last item.

After a reset on the automatic machine, go to the advanced settings panel and click "Troubleshooting";

Then select "Update" to force the cleaning system, preserving your data.

Return to factory settings

The second option titled “delete everything and reinstall Windows, allows you to make your computer like new, returning to factory settings. In this case, all the stored files will be deleted, so only select this option if you have a secure backup of your data, or are willing to lose in exchange for a clean installation of the operating system.

In the same way as the previous option, it is possible that the procedure can only be performed within the advanced configuration. To do this, go to the troubleshooting after the reset and choose "restore PC".

Using local image

An alternative to formatting a computer running Windows 8.1 is if you have made a backup location of the system image, usually offered by the software manufacturer, such as Lenovo or Dell. This is one of the most drastic ways to format a PC because it erases all your data, but, on the other hand, it eliminates any presence of viruses.
