How to install a heatsink on the raspberry pi 3
Table of contents:
We bring you a quick tutorial on how to install a heatsink to our Raspberry Pi 3 board . As we have already seen, they have a small overheating problem but we can fix it for a few euros. Ready to know how to do it? Well here we go!
How to install a heatsink on the Raspberry Pi 3
There are several heatsinks on the market and their prices are really affordable. Among which we find Aukru aluminum heatsinks, which cost practically 4 euros and are also adaptable to the Raspberry Pi 2.
The base of these heat sinks is practically adhesive with a heat conducting plastic layer. You will need to paste them directly onto the processors present in the Raspberry chips.
In the market there is another model, also distributed by Aukru, of slightly higher quality, which costs about 5 euros, and also includes a copper plate. The copper plate is glued to the bottom of the plate where the processor resides.
If you already have a heat sink kit and now want to know how to glue them to your Raspberry Pi 3, you will need to have the following:
- A Raspberry Pi 3.A heatsink that will be attached to the Broadcom SoC chip, and the smallest is for the LAN chip.Heatsink thermal adhesive band (most kits include it).
Place the heat sink on top of the heat strip and position it in the corner so it has a flush edge on both sides. Firmly push down on the heat sink from above, and use your knife or something sharp to cut flush with the edge of the heat sink on one of the overlapping sides. If there is anything left on the other edge, cut it out.

Haiworld Screen KIT For Raspberry Pi 3 b / 2b, 3.5 "touch screen TFT + 9 layer case + heatsinks (3 items)Peel off one of the layers and stick the thermal adhesive on the flat heatsink on the underside. You can then remove the secondary overlay layer from the thermal adhesive strip and stick the heatsinks to your Pi 3's chips.
It is usually installed on the main chip which is the Broadcom SoC, although users who want the network card (LAN) chip also heatsink.
Remember that the adhesive is designed to adhere more securely once it has been heated. By simply running the Pi 3 up to temperature for a short period of time, it is enough to thermally bond the chip, adhesive, and heat sink.
We already have it! What is super easy? ?
