How to free and optimize storage on your iphone with ios 11

Although Apple has finally stopped launching its iPhones and iPads with that ridiculous 16 GB storage, the truth is that there are still many users with devices limited to that space. Even with larger options, it may be the case that we are limited. With iOS 11, freeing up and optimizing storage space is easy, and useful.

More free space on your iPhone or iPad

First, we are going to open the Settings application on our iPhone or iPad with iOS 11, select the General section and within it, "iPhone Storage".

If we wait a bit for the data to load, at the top of the screen we can see in graphical form a complete breakdown of what we are occupying the storage of the iPhone. In addition, under it the system itself will make two recommendations that we can activate to optimize the storage of our iPhone or iPad: delete old conversations from Messages, and delete applications that we do not use. Since I already activated these options, the iPhone does not suggest them to me, so I have taken another image for you to see:

Below is a list of all the applications you have installed and the storage that each one occupies. Click on any of them to access the information. In most cases you will find two options, "Uninstall application" and "Delete Application". With the first, you delete only the app, but not the data or associated documents so that if you reinstall it later, all of it will appear again; with the second you erase everything.

Finally, if you follow the path Settings → Photos, you will find an option called "Optimize storage". If you activate it, iOS 11 will save the videos and photos in original resolution in iCloud, but on your iPhone it will “optimize” the quality, that is, it will save versions that take up less space.
