How to fix the problem of the USB WiFi adapter that does not connect to the Internet

Thanks to a USB WiFi adapter you will forget about cables and having to install additional hardware. So it makes life much easier for us. Without a doubt, a good purchase to consider for all consumers. Although, in the beginning many users are faced with an error. Since they are usually faced with a message that says the WiFi USB adapter cannot connect to the Internet.

Luckily, it is a problem whose solution is very simple. In fact, there are multiple solutions to this problem. This is what we are going to teach you next.

Check your WiFi connection

The first solution to this problem is the simplest of all and the one we recommend checking first. We have to check that our WiFi connection works correctly. Therefore, we must go to the start menu and there click on the system configuration (gear-shaped button). Once it opens we must go to networks and the Internet.

Once inside, in the menu on the left we must select the WiFi option. Therefore, we click on this option. Then a new window opens in which the available connections appear. If our connection appears in the list, we must connect to it. This way, this problem would already be solved.

Disable airplane mode

The USB WiFi adapter may not work correctly because airplane mode is connected. In order to check and deactivate it we have a couple of possible ways. They are both very simple. But the first one stands out for being the fastest.

In Windows 10, just click on the WiFi connection symbol at the bottom right of the screen. There we get the WiFi connections that are available and to which we are connected at that time. But, in addition, at the bottom it shows us the airplane mode and if we are currently using that mode or not.

The other way is somewhat longer, but it also works perfectly. We go back to the system configuration and once inside we go back to networks and the Internet. When we are inside, an option called "Airplane mode" appears in the menu on the left. We click on this option and it takes us to the new window where we have the possibility to activate or deactivate airplane mode. In case it is activated, we proceed to deactivate it.

Restart the router

The first two solutions are the simplest of all. But, it may happen that they do not work. Therefore, thirdly, one of the solutions that most users resort to is to restart the WiFi router. Since the problem may originate from it. Doing so helps create a new connection for the ISP.

What we can do is disconnect the router's power cable for a minimum of 30 seconds. After that time, we reconnect the cable. Wait a few minutes until the router returns to full capacity. Generally we can check it with the lights that show us their status. When we have done this, reconnect your computer to the router.

Run the troubleshooter

The fourth possible solution to this problem is to resort to troubleshooting. Since the WiFi USB adapter may not connect to the Internet for a problem that we could not see. Therefore, it is good to resort to this option, which can shed much light on the matter. This time we have to go to the control panel.

Within the control panel we go to Networks and Internet. There we went to the so-called exchange center. In Windows 10 we find a troubleshooting option at the bottom. Therefore, we click on this option and wait for it to find the origin of the problem. In addition to providing a solution to it.

Update the network adapter driver

The problem may be that there is a driver that is not updated. Something that can cause your USB WiFi adapter to be unable to connect to the Internet. Also, this is something that can happen especially if the user has recently upgraded to a new version of the operating system. So if this is your case, it may be the source of the problem.

In this case we must then go to the device manager. Within it we have to look for network adapters. When we find the driver we are looking for, then we right click on it and select the update option. We get a new window and we select in this case to check for updates automatically. If the system does not find an update, the problem may not reside here. Although you can visit the manufacturer's website to make sure there is no update and the problem does not therefore reside in this driver.

Revert the driver

You may have recently installed a new driver for the adapter. It may be helpful to return to the previous version of this driver so that your USB WiFi adapter can connect to the Internet normally. What do we have to do then? In this case we must revert the driver, make it return to its previous state.

To do this, we went to the device manager and looked again for these adapter drivers. As we have done in the previous step. But in this case we have to go to the properties of this driver.

Once inside the properties we find one of the options at the top called driver. We click on it and that's when we get several options. We can see that the third option is to revert the driver. Therefore, if we find that this option is currently available, then click on it.

Temporarily disable Firewall

There are times when the antivirus or firewall causes your WiFi USB adapter to connect to the Internet. Therefore, we can try to temporarily disable them and see if we can connect to the network or not. If possible we know at least that the problem lies there. So it is important that we check how the firewall can be disabled. When we have done this and check if we can connect and it is not, we must activate it again.

Uninstall the network adapter driver

A solution that could also work is to uninstall the adapter driver. So when we do this we reboot the computer. When it is turned on again, we let the system itself be in charge of finding and installing the new version of the driver. In this way we can connect to the Internet again. Before deleting it is good to make a copy of this driver, just in case.

We must go again to the device manager and look for the driver in question. We click again with the right button and this time we click on uninstall. Once we have uninstalled it, we will restart the computer. When we start again we wait for Windows to offer us the installation automatically. In case this does not happen, we resort to the copy that we have saved before deleting it.

All these solutions should help you to connect your WiFi USB adapter to the Internet normally. So we hope that they have been helpful in solving this problem.
