Calendar subscriptions are a great way to stay up-to-date with everything from national or local holidays to your favorite soccer team's games. Next we will see how you can subscribe to a public calendar on your iPhone or iPad (which will be kept in sync with other computers and devices through your iCloud account): all you need in advance is the link in the calendar file (ics).

Subscribe to calendars on your iOS device

First of all, you should bear in mind that if you want to keep a calendar subscription synchronized on all the devices that you have registered in your iCloud account, you must subscribe to it from your Mac. To do this, open the Calendar application in macOS and select File → New calendar subscription, enter the calendar URL to subscribe to, and then select iCloud from the Location menu.

I clarify this, to subscribe to a calendar on your iPhone or iPad device, you just have to follow the following steps. In this example we will do it with the calendar of public holidays in Spain whose URL is https://dias-festivos.eu/ical/espana/2018/.

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap Accounts and passwords . In the Accounts section, select Add account. Tap Other . In Calendars, tap Add subscribed calendar. Paste the calendar link in the Server field. Tap Next in the upper right corner. Use the Description field to give the calendar an easily recognizable name, although as you can see in the screenshots, it usually appears by default. Enter the server username and password if necessary (in most cases (this step can be skipped.) Tap Save.

And if what you want is to delete a subscribed calendar:

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap Accounts and passwords. Tap Subscribed calendars Tap the calendar you want to delete. Select Delete account at the bottom of the screen.
