How to use google drive on kubuntu with kio gdrive
Table of contents:
Google Drive is one of the most used services to store and share files over the network, despite this, the Linux users still do not have an official client for the use of this service, but fortunately once again we have at our disposal a solution for third parties to alleviate the problem.
Access Google Drive using KIO GDrive on your Kubuntu
KIO GDrive is a function that has been developed for the Plasma desktop environment and will allow us to enjoy all the benefits of Google Drive, with this we can access the popular Google service from our Plasma user environment in a very simple way. The problem with KIO GDrive is that there is no repository or package for its installation in Debian or its derived systems like Kubuntu
Let no one panic, we can always resort to compiling the KIO GDrive function ourselves for our Kubuntu, Linux Mint KDE or even Debian KDE, for this we only need to open a terminal and type the following:
git clone git: //anongit.kde.org/kio-gdrive.git cd kio-gdrive mkdir build && cd build cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX = / usr.. sudo make install
After that we only need to close the session of our user and after starting it again we will find in the Applications Menu a new entry "Dolphin (Google Drive)". This entry will open a browser tab that will ask us for our credentials to connect to the Google Drive service. You just need to set the tab in the Dolphin bookmarks to have much faster access to your Google Drive hard drive.
