Who does not currently have a Smartphone with a 4G data rate or even higher speed? Connectivity and browsing speed have increased a lot on our mobile devices, and the cost of data rates has dropped a lot. That is why this option is very interesting to get us out of a tight spot at a specific time, although it is worth taking into account some important points before doing so.

Things to keep in mind before using a mobile as a Wi-Fi modem

The first thing that we must take into account when using this method to connect to the Internet is that we will need that our phone is using mobile data. In this sense, we should be aware of the characteristics of our data rate, such as browsing speed or the volume of data that we can use.

It will not work if we have our mobile connected to a Wi-Fi network, this is obvious since it would not make sense to configure our mobile as Wi-Fi access if we already have coverage for our laptop.

Another extremely important thing is the autonomy of our Smartphone, using a mobile as a modem consumes a lot of battery so it would not hurt to have your charger on hand or a USB cable to supply it with charge from another device.

We can navigate with one or more devices connected to our mobile, not just use. And we recommend protecting the network with a password, which we will now see how to do. Without further delay, let's start with the procedure.

Set up mobile as modem on Android

We are going to carry out the process on an Android Smartphone, and it will be practically the same regardless of the version of the operating system we have. Both the options and the procedure will be almost identical, in our case it will be a version of Android 6.0.

Remember that we must be connected to the mobile data network, not to a Wi-Fi. In the example you will see that we were on a Wi-Fi and when activating the access point, the mobile was automatically disconnected from it.

It all starts by going to our main applications menu, where we must click on the " Settings " option to access the mobile configuration.

Then we must go to the networks section. Depending on the interface that we have installed, this option will be located in a different way. Once inside, we must locate an option called " Network anchor " or " Access point ".

We enter this option and we find several options, but we are only interested in one, the " Wi-Fi access point ", so we click to activate it.

Now we will skip a notice informing us that this mode consumes enough battery, we accept and continue.

We will already have the access point activated, but now we will need to configure it with its password and we will have to know the name of the network. So we will extend the notification bar and click on " Active Wi-Fi access point ".

Once inside, click on the option " Configure Wi-Fi access point " again to access the parameters.

From here we can modify the name that we will see in the list of available Wi-Fi networks, in addition to the encryption method and the password.

We will have everything ready, now we will only have to go to our laptop, tablet or whatever, and search in the list of Wi-Fi networks where the one that we have just configured is located. Click to access and enter the password.

If we look, now in the list of connected devices, we can see our equipment, both with its IP address and by its mac.

From now on we will be able to navigate freely on our laptop and thus we will be able to use our mobile as a modem. Of course we must control the volume of data that we are using and the battery of the mobile.
