Most websites, at least the most popular or important ones, already have both desktop and mobile versions. The latter show the content in a more responsive way, improving the user experience by automatically adapting to the different screen sizes of smartphones and tablets. But sometimes, these adapted versions abuse simplification, and even omit content that does appear in its desktop version. Aware of this, Apple has long implemented a way that allows us to view the desktop version of a website on our iPhone or iPad.

The desktop version, also on your iPhone and iPad

To view the desktop version of a web page or blog on the screen of your iPad or iPhone, simply follow these steps.

  1. Start the Safari app on your iOS device and navigate to the website in question. Press and hold the Reload button at the far right of the address bar. An on-screen menu will appear. On your iPhone, select Desktop version at the bottom of the screen. On your iPad, the same option will appear in a drop-down menu below the web reload button.

Note that you can also access this option by tapping the Share button (the square with an outward-facing arrow at the bottom of the screen) and selecting Desktop Version in the bottom row of the offered menu.

Once you've done this, Safari should remember your preference for that particular website and load the desktop version the next time you visit.
