Index of contents
With the arrival of Windows 8 many things changed in the Microsoft operating system, and one of them was the creation of this tool panel called the activity center. In Windows 10, this panel is improved as new functions have been acquired so that the user can dispose of some of the main use and configuration options directly from the taskbar of the desktop.
Where is the Windows 10 activity center located
To access the activity center we will have to place ourselves on the desktop and look at the Windows taskbar. At its left end there is an icon that represents a text balloon, this icon serves as access to this tool.
If we click on it, we will get a sidebar with the notifications sent by the system of its state, such as problems found or the arrival of new emails and notifications from other applications that are linked to our Microsoft account.
For example, if we disable Windows defender, a notification about this problem will be shown in this activity center. If we click next to the notice we would go directly to the configuration panel where we could solve this error.
We will also have a series of quick access icons available to configure different aspects of our equipment. The number of icons will vary depending on the computer where we are, for example, if it is a laptop there will very possibly be more icons of functionalities than on a desktop PC.
Customize Windows 10 Activity Center Buttons
As we have seen, in this panel we have a certain number of quick access icons that can be quite useful for us. We can quickly access the configuration of our equipment that we use frequently. Let's see how to customize the icons that appear here:
- Click on the activity center to open it Click on " All settings " Now we go to the " system " section
- Once inside we access the section “ Notifications and actions ” in the list of options in the left area. The first thing we will find in the area on the right is the panel of buttons shown in the activity center. To customize these, click on “ Add or remove quick actions ”
- Within this new panel we can activate or deactivate the different buttons that appear here
In any case, these buttons correspond to functionalities that Windows installs on our computer according to the available hardware. So, if we see more icons on one laptop than another, it is because it has extra features such as energy saving, Wi-Fi, VPN etc.
Customize Windows 10 Activity Center notifications
One of the actions of greatest interest to users is being able to configure and customize notifications from the activity center. Many times it is quite annoying sending notifications from applications and social networks like LinkedIn when we are doing other activities. To customize the notifications we will have to do the following:
- We open the activity center and click on the button " All settings " Then we go to " System " and within it to notifications and actions We go to the " Notifications " section and we will see all the options that we can activate or deactivate
Almost all of them are quite irrelevant except the last two
- Get tricks, tips and recommendations while using Windows: the system will send us messages of certain configurations to improve these or any problems that have occurred at some point. Get notifications of applications and other elements: if we deactivate this option, Windows will not show any notification about the applications that we have installed
If we continue down the window, we will enter the notifications section of the applications that we have installed. Here we can already do more interesting things like deactivating the notifications of certain applications that are especially annoying
To deactivate the notifications of all the applications deactivate the option seen previously in the upper section.
Advanced notification options
If we also click on any of the applications that notify us, we can obtain a more detailed configuration about it. This will apply to all applications. We can configure aspect such as the number of visible notifications, if we want it to also make sound, and the priority of these over other notices
Completely disable Windows 10 Activity Center
If the previous options are not enough to eliminate the number of notifications from the activity center, we can also eliminate it completely. Let's see how:
- Press the key combination " Windows + R " to open the Run tool. Now we have to type the following command in the dialog box and press Enter
regedit
For more information about regedit visit our tutorial:
- The registry editor will open and we will have to go to the following route:
HKEYCURRENTUSER \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Explorer
In case this route is not available in our team we will have to create it, as is our case
- Right-click on the " Windows " folder and choose " New-> password " We will name it " Explorer "
- Now on the right side and inside the new key, right-click and choose " New -> DWORD Value (32 bits) "
- We are going to place it the name of “ DisableNotificacionCenter ” Next, click on the new value with the right button and choose “ Modify… ” In the window that appears we will have to write a “ 1 ” as a numerical value We click on “ OK ” and close the editor register
Now we must restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Now the taskbar icon will be gone, but notifications still need to be disabled.
To do this we will go as in the second section to " Configuration -> System -> Notifications and actions " and disable everything
These are all the configuration actions that we can do in the Windows 10 activity center.
