The introduction of Cortana's personal assistant brought with it the possibility of interacting in a more advanced way on our equipment by voice, although this is not new in Windows either. That is why in this step by step we will see how to activate voice recognition in Windows 10 and how to speak to Cortana through this interaction channel.

Accessibility is a section in which Microsoft has worked a lot on its latest operating system. Thanks to voice recognition, we can carry out all our actions in the system without moving a muscle. It is not Jarvis from Iron Man but at least it works without using third party programs.

We can write texts by voice, move the mouse and even manage Windows Explorer and move around it thanks to voice commands. In addition, of course, we will show where we can see all the commands that we will have available to control the system.

Turn on time recognition in Windows 10 for the first time

Well then, let's proceed to activate this option in our system. Obviously we will need to have an activated microphone to be able to interact with the system.

Well, the first thing to do is open the start menu and write " voice recognition " or something similar. The case is that the following will be shown as a search result: “ Windows voice recognition ”.

Click on this option to start the configuration wizard

Click on next to access the next wizard window. It will give us different options depending on what type of microphone we have. In this way the system will adapt in the best possible way to the recognition of the commands.

In the next window it gives us a series of indications so that you can hear us correctly. Click on "next" so that now the assistant shows us a phrase that we will need to read to continue the wizard

We click on "Next" a few more times to notify us that the microphone is ready to use. Now we can activate the precision improvement of the system by activating " Enable document review ". In this way the system will read documents to understand new words and to understand us in a better way.

The next screen is also quite important. We will have two options to carry out the activation of voice commands.

  • Use the manual activation mode: to activate the voice recognition we will have to press the microphone button or in its case the key combination " Windows + Ctrl " Use the voice activation mode: using this option we can activate the voice recognition by directly speaking into the microphone and saying “ Activate microphone

Click on next to finish our assistant. In this window a link will appear to see all the voice commands that we will have at our disposal. Finally, the wizard will ask us if we want to run voice recognition at system startup.

Well, in this way we will have activated voice recognition in Windows 10. Now we will have to speak clearly to the microphone with the commands that we can see on the Microsoft page.

Activate Cortana's voice recognition

Now we are going to activate the “ Hello Cortana ” function to recognize voice commands using the Cortana search assistant. What we must do is click on the Cortana button, or in its case on the search bar located in our taskbar and click on the roll inside to open the Cortana configuration.

We can do the same if we click on the start menu and access the configuration. Inside there will be a section corresponding to Cortana where we will get the same configuration window

Well, in this window we activate the option Allow Cortana to respond when you say "Hello Cortana"

Now a box will automatically open in the task bar to confirm that we want to activate this option. After this, we will press the activation button again so that it is activated.

Now when we say " Hi Cortana " the Windows search assistant will be automatically activated and will listen

Thanks to these two combinations we can control our equipment without using a keyboard or mouse. The only problem that we will have to get used to the commands and have when it speaks clearly as if we were dealing with a YouTube.
