Although the use of Flash technology has decreased considerably on the Internet in recent years, there are still many sites that need it to see it correctly, to watch videos, use online services, applications, etc. Today we are going to discover how to install Flash for the Ubuntu operating system.

Steps to install Flash in Ubuntu

The easiest way to install Flash in Ubuntu is using the Google Chrome browser. In the latest versions of Chrome, it already has Flash, thanks to the Flash PPAPI ('pepper') plug-in, so if you already have Google Chrome you won't have to do anything else.

If you do not use Google Chrome as a browser, be it Mozilla Firefox or Vivaldi, you are going to need to install a plug-in separately in the system, as it did some years ago in Windows.

First of all we are going to have to enable the Canonical Partner Repository. This option adds the possibility of using free applications that are not open source.

Alternative method

  • Open Software and updates Go to the "Other Software" tab We check the 'Canonical Partners' box Then we will only have to update the software sources when requested

Once the option is activated, we proceed to install Flash from the Google Terminal. For we are going to write the following in Terminal:

Sudo apt install adobe-flashplugin

We recommend you read our article Ubuntu vs Debian. Which distro to choose?

Once the installation process ends, we will have to restart for the changes to take effect in the system. Along with the plugin will also install a GTK application called 'Adobe Flash Player Preferences' where we can make advanced adjustments to the plugin.
