Removable or USB storage drives are definitely making CDs and DVDs history. It is no more to see that practically no chassis already has space in its front for a compact disc reader. This also influences the ways we have to install Windows, we have always done it from the typical DVD, but now we can hardly even create a DVD. So today we show you how to install Windows 10 from USB.

Next, we will explain the complete procedure of how to install Windows 10 from USB. We will see that it is very similar, if not the same as doing it from a DVD and it will also be a faster process if we have USB 2.0 or 3.0. Let's see the process

Creation of the installation unit

Well, as with DVDs, we will need to create an installation unit with the operating system inside. In order to do this, we will not need to search for internet programs like Rufus, nor ISO images of Windows 10 on YouTube or dubious security websites.

We have everything at home. Microsoft has an application called Media Creation Tool that downloading it from its website allows us to create a USB drive with the latest version of the operating system inside. In other words, the application itself will download the operating system that we want and insert it into a USB. Simpler impossible.

Once we have the USB drive with the system, it's time to install the operating system. but first we must do something more.

Configure BIOS boot sequence

Another pending issue that we must overcome to install Windows 10 from USB is to make our USB device boot before the system installed on our computer. And in any case get this to boot before a hard drive you have installed.

Currently almost all BIOS are already UEFI type or with graphical environment and the possibility of having a mouse inside it. But there are still teams from a few years ago that do not have it. Let's get into both situations.

Classic BIOS

To access the BIOS, it will be necessary to restart the computer and press a specific key on the keyboard, at the beginning of the boot process, when a black screen appears with some letters.

Sometimes a different color screen may appear: this is the case of the small Asus Eee PC laptops, where the screen is gray. The important thing is that the following message appears: "Press DEL to enter setup" or "Press F2 to access the BIOS", which is always written in English.

There are cases in which a different key or set of keys may be necessary, depending on the model and brand of the equipment or the motherboard, for example, F12 or Esc. But in general the required key is F2 or DEL.

Once inside, we must look for a section that says "BOOT", to move we use the arrow keys.

Once in the correct section (check if our storage devices appear, DC, USB, etc.) we must modify the positions in the list. For this we will have to move them with the + (up) or - (down) key.

A drop-down list may also appear where we must select the device we want.

In almost everything we place "Removable Devices" or "USB Devices" at the top of the list.

Then we press F10 to save and restart. In this way our device will start the first one.

UEFI BIOS

On newer computers, the BIOS has been replaced by a different system called UEFI, much easier to use and understand. Although the keys to be pressed and the graphic part may vary according to the model of the computer, the process is similar in all computers that use the traditional BIOS.

There will always be a BOOT section where we can select our devices.

Without entering the BIOS

On some computers it is not necessary to enter the BIOS to change the boot order. In this case, on the black screen that appears for a moment when you turn on the computer, an indication appears saying "Press F18 key for boot menu" (or F12 or F11) to enter the boot menu.

This allows you to choose which device to use to start the computer only on that occasion, without changing the order permanently. This way we will not have to enter the BIOS to configure anything.

Installation process

Once these tasks are done, we can now install Windows 10 from USB. Our device will boot and the installation screen will appear
