This time we bring you a tutorial on how to clean your computer both inside and out. And it is that, at least once a year we must do a deep cleaning of our computer, although it is advisable to do it every 6 months to avoid the entry of excessive dust and keep our equipment in the perfect possible conditions.
We also recommend having the equipment on the table, instead of on the floor… But in these little tricks we will go into more detail during the article. Do not miss it!
How to clean your computer step by step
This may seem like a complicated way to go, but it doesn't have many secrets. Before you start, make sure you unplug all the cables, after all, you don't want to risk a power shock, do you? It is also recommended to have on hand:
- Classic house vacuum cleaner. A microfiber ballot. Set of brushes of quality (and that does not loosen hairs easily). Isopropyl alcohol if you are going to clean both the processor and the graphics card, if you want a can of compressed air.
Cleaning the case and heatsink fans
First, undock the covers from the PC case. Once opened, you are going to think almost inertia about using an air compressor to remove all the dust, right? Generally not a good idea. The compressor in some cases can get more dust into your PC or even release some water due to the ambient temperature, so we do not recommend it for cleaning your computer, although sometimes we have no choice.
The first thing you will do is remove the fans. Uncouple the fan from the processor and the source. Take notes of the cables that supply each fan and memorize the way they are adjusted, so you don't get lost when reassembling everything again.
Once the fans have been removed, apply a blow of compressed air (fix the fan blades with one finger to avoid damaging the fan rotor) until all the dust is gone. Wipe a sponge or a cloth lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol on the fan bars and they are ready. Make sure you do all the processes in an open space and if you are allergic to dust be more careful.
Cleaning RAM and additional cards
Carefully remove the graphics card, other expansion cards you have installed, and the RAM memories of their respective slots. Generally, memories are very easy to remove, as opening its two security notches is more than enough. The cards installed in the box are usually based on an external screw, combined with a slight pull to the outside. After removing them, vacuum and brush through each socket. In addition we will do the same procedure with the fans as with the graphics card or any card that has a fan.
Applying thermal paste
Once you have removed the components from the box, it is a good idea to reapply thermal paste, to ensure the performance and energy efficiency of the machine. To do this, carefully pull out the processor, holding it by the sides. Clean the old thermal paste on top of the processor using toilet paper and isopropyl alcohol. This done, cover the entire surface using a very thin layer of thermal paste. A small spatula is ideal for this application. What is not clear to you? We recommend reading how to change the thermal paste on your PC.
Cleaning the motherboard
With all the components removed, you can use an air compressor to remove all the dust. In this case, it is important that the motherboard is out of the box, so that dust does not accumulate on the other components and screws. And cleaning proceeds with the brush and then vacuum to clean all the equipment.
WE RECOMMEND YOUIntel Celeron: desktop and laptop Are they worth it?Reattach all removed components - start by putting the processor back in place, remembering to make sure the latch is tight and correct. Next, it's time to reattach any additional cables, RAMs, and cards. Lastly, put the heatsink or liquid cooling and all the fans.
We are almost finishing the internal part. If you wish before closing the PC case, remember that you should wipe isopropyl alcohol on the internal walls of the PC. This done, you can now screw or snap on the lid.
Cleaning the outside of the box
This is the easiest part , but profoundly important, after all, this is what people see on a first impression. There is no use cleaning inside and leaving the outside side dirty. To clean the outside, follow these tips:
- Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid excess moisture in the slits. Never use solvents or abrasives. If the box is very dirty, wipe the cloth with isopropyl alcohol throughout the box to remove the most dirty parts. In the folds and screws, use a swab of cotton or a toothpick, so you can remove stains from places where the flannel does not reach.
