How to install the new RAM memory modules on the motherboard
Once you have chosen your new memories, it is time to install them on your PC, this is a quick and uncomplicated task, assuming you have done all your homework.
First, turn off the PC and unplug all the cables connected to it. Then, remove the side of the PC chassis to gain access to the motherboard. The RAM slots are adjacent to the CPU socket. Look for the large heat sink on top of the motherboard, and you'll see two to four memory slots next to it. These are the slots on the motherboard where you insert your RAM.
Before you can install the new memory you have purchased, you must remove the old kit. Start by opening the plastic retention clips at each end of the memory slots so you can remove the old RAM.
Now is the time to put in the new RAM kit. Make sure the memory module is oriented correctly - the notch on the bottom edge of the RAM should match the notch in the memory slot. If you are not occupying all available RAM channels, read your motherboard manual to see which specific slots you should occupy first. Placing RAM modules in the wrong slots could cause performance degradation.
Now that you've rammed the RAM into the slot with slight pressure, close the plastic retention levers again to lock the new memory modules in place. Finally, close the PC chassis, plug everything back in and turn on your PC. It may take a few restarts for the motherboard to recognize and adjust to the new memory you have installed.
