How to remove keys from a mechanical keyboard?
Table of contents:
In case you have to remove keys from a mechanical keyboard to clean it or to change the keys for customizable ones, you will surely have to use a key extractor. These are small accessories that wrap around a key and allow us to remove them without risk of damaging the keyboard or the keys themselves. That of using a knife to pry and remove them is a thing of the past.
With a key extractor it is very simple
Depending on the keyboard you have, some manufacturers include a key extractor. If it is not the case, you can buy one that should not cost more than 8 euros in any specialized house. There is a choice between a wire and plastic remover, but they both work in a similar way to accomplish this task well.
As seen in the screenshots, the method is very simple but there are some notes that we must take into account.
Beware of removing keys from a backlit keyboard
Be careful when you want to remove keys on a keyboard that has LED backlight (do not do as in the screenshot above). It is highly recommended to disconnect the keyboard or turn off the backlights as this type of lighting is harmful to the eyes and we also avoid any other eventuality.
If you do not want to spend money on one of these accessories, you can always use a clip and fold it into a 'U' shape to remove keys from a mechanical keyboard, although it is much easier with the extractor that is specially prepared for it.
