At an event recently held in New York, Samsung unveiled its new flagships, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 +, which share basically the same design but differ in several important ways.
Over the past two years, Samsung has accustomed us to launching the phones of the Galaxy S range in two different variants, one with a standard screen, and the other with a curved or Edge screen. But this year, the company decided to completely change its strategy and offer both smartphones with the same design but different sizes.
Samsung Galaxy S8 versus S8 Plus - Design
The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch Infinity Display Super AMOLED screen and a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels, while the Galaxy S8 + brings a 6.2-inch screen, the same pixel resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.5: 9.
The dimensions of the two mobiles clearly show their differences regarding their size, since the S8 measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0 mm and weighs 155 grams, while the S8 + measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 (mm) and weighs 173 grams.
In terms of design, both mobiles are identical, although the standard 5.8-inch model is aimed primarily at those users who are not used to Phablet-type devices. It remains to be seen which of the two will have higher sales, although I would personally go for the 6.2-inch model.
Samsung Galaxy S8 versus S8 Plus - Hardware
In terms of hardware, there are very few differences between the two terminals, since both the S8 and the S8 Plus integrate an eight-core Snapdragon 835 processor (the international version could come with the Exynos 8895, although both SoCs provide similar performance).
Also, both mobiles incorporate 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage space with support for microSD cards up to 256GB and rear 12-megapixel cameras with f / 1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization. The selfie camera has 8 megapixels on both devices.
The biggest change perhaps has to do with the battery, since the S8 Plus has a 3500 mAh battery, while the S8 only has a 3000 mAh battery, which makes us think that its predecessors, the S7 and S7 edge, could provide better autonomy.
Finally, both devices bring IP68 resistance certification, so they can be immersed in water for 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters, and both come with the Bixby virtual assistant, a fingerprint and iris scanner, USB-C port, fast charge and support for Samsung DeX devices.
Then we leave you with a comparative table that summarizes everything we have indicated above.
