Intel core i9 get overclocked

Intel had already shared some of the exploits of pro-overclockers such as Splave and Steponz for the i9-9900K chip, achieving 6.9 GHz frequencies in all its cores, but now the German overclocker Roman 'der8auer' Hartung managed to raise those frequencies insane up to 7.6 GHz.

Intel Core i9-9900K reached 7.6 GHz in all its cores

The i9-9900K chip is falling victim to the most expert overclockers to set new frequency records. Der8auer managed to push the chip even further just days after Intel's release, reaching unprecedented 7613.19 MHz frequencies across all 8 cores!. If the CPU-Z screenshot isn't enough to impress, then official validation certainly is.

The feat was accomplished using an ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI GENE Z390 motherboard with 8GB of DDR4 memory. Unfortunately for consumers, this frequency is only possible through the use of liquid helium which cools the chip to -230 ° C, and is therefore not practical for home use. Still, it is an impressive clock frequency.

We can see Der8auer in action in the following video:

Liquid helium is clearly colder than we are used to seeing with liquid nitrogen, dropping to temperatures of -270 ° C instead of -196 ° C for liquid nitrogen. Using LN2, der8auer only managed to hit 6.1GHz, a much smaller number but still higher than the i7-9700K's 5.5GHz across all cores. This raises the question of how other chips would fare with liquid helium treatment, but given their limited availability for benchmarking uses, we are unlikely to find out soon.
