The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series processors were recently released and the overclockers revealed some impressive feats that they accomplished with the flagship 2990WX chip.

Threadripper 2000 series achieves amazing overclocking results

Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX is a monstrous chip with its 32 cores and 64 threads , but it can be pushed to its limits thanks to liquid nitrogen cooling.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX is overclocked up to 6 GHz on all its cores

Indonesian overclocker Ivan Cupa achieved a clock rate of 5955.4 MHz through the 32 cores and 64 threads offered by the Threadripper 2990WX. The feat was accomplished on an MSI MEG X399 Creation motherboard along with a 1500W Corsair power supply and tons of liquid nitrogen to keep temperatures under control. A CPU voltage of 1.45V was reported within the Ryzen Master utility but we are not sure if that is correct since the CPU-Z and Ryzen Master utilities are reporting different numbers.

However, this is an amazing feat, achieving such a high frequency through all 32 cores and 64 activated threads. In addition to the world record for 6 GHz frequency, Alva Jonathan aka Lucky_Noob also achieved some record performance numbers with the 2990WX overclocked at 5.4 GHz across all 32 cores. Currently, the chip holds the world record in GPUPI and also the world record in HWBOT x265 Benchmark (4K).

It will still take some time for Intel to launch a processor with this number of cores for the mass market (Skylake XCC) , so AMD is having a decisive advantage within the segment of high-performance processors.
