Corsair icue 465x rgb review in Spanish (full analysis)

Corsair iCUE 465X RGB is another of the new half-tower chassis that the manufacturer has released for this year. The list has increased with the new Airflow and iCUE range, as in this case, to provide the user with even better cooling and software control of their lighting. For this, three Corsair LL120 RGB have been installed on a tempered glass front with excellent aesthetics in white or black.

In our opinion, one of the most striking in design of this new consignment, so let us be attentive to everything it offers us, because it could be your choice.

But before, we must thank Corsair as always for the trust in us and in our Review for giving us so quickly their new chassis. Let's start!

Corsair iCUE 465X RGB technical characteristics

Unboxing

The Corsair iCUE 465X RGB tower is presented to us in the traditional way, starting from a neutral cardboard box with tight measurements and a sketch of the chassis on its outer face. We find some information in several languages also on the back, although we will give all of them here in detail.

Inside, we have the chassis tucked inside two molds of expanded polystyrene cork and in turn in a plastic bag. Standard protection where they exist, and without any side panel to protect the glass.

The bundle consists of the following elements:

  • Corsair iCUE 465X RGB Chassis Screw and Clip Bags Instruction Manual

I'm still heavy, but I miss a divider or hub to connect the three fans in a single header on the board or in a SATA connector. So we will have to connect them all independently on our own board or buy it separately.

Exterior design

If you know a bit about the Corsair range of chassis, you can see that this chassis is based on the Corsair Crystal 460X RGB, although with some cuts in functionality to further adjust its price. For example, we don't have a flip-up PSU cover and the I / O panel is somewhat different. In any case, the basic benefits are the same and it has been improved in other aspects as we will see later.

The Corsair iCUE 465X RGB chassis comes in two colors, black and white, which we have assembled. We love that the manufacturer opts for at least two color variants in its new chassis, more options never hurt in a market as tough as this one. The structure oozes quality from all corners, with a fairly rigid steel chassis, glass panels on the front and left side, and only plastic in the grip of this front.

Measurements are somewhat more extensive in width than recently tested models, such as the iCUE 220T and 275R Airflow. We are talking about 467 mm deep, 216 mm wide and 465 mm high, weighing approximately 8 Kg. This gives us a slight improvement in the wiring capacity and in the main compartment.

We will start by studying the left side panel, which is almost entirely occupied by 4 mm thick tempered glass and without any darkening. Personally I really like the use of a transparent glass , if the interior is well cared for like this, there is no reason to hide what we have. Only the edges are opaque to avoid seeing the metal frames of the chassis.

Again I would have liked this glass to have a metal frame and rear fixation instead of the four formal thumbscrews . This greatly improves aesthetics and ease of disassembly.

The front will be its most differentiating aspect and also what you like the most. The truth is that it is very similar to that of the Crystal 460X, but in this case the side openings are even wider and completely free of air. This tempered glass does have a very slight darkening and is also fixed to the plastic frame that holds them to the chassis.

The chassis could well have also been called Airflow, as it is optimized for cooling. The front is completely removable by removing the four manual thread screws it has. Again, to improve aesthetics, pressurized plastic grips could be used, such as those used in the Crystal 680X RGB. I understand that the advantage of the screws is that the threads are not worn and it gives us an extra security. But at this point we must get exquisite due to the competition there is.

One of the great advantages is that the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB has 3 120mm RGB fans pre-installed on this front and its corresponding iCUE controller that we will see later. And what to say about the beautiful and well built fine mesh filter that protects this entire front, undoubtedly an improvement that has been maintained in all the manufacturer's new chassis.

We turn to see the top, where a huge opening has been placed to blow hot air out. In it, you can install liquid cooling of 240 mm or fans of 120 mm, although not more than two. Of course we have a thick mesh magnetic filter to prevent dirt from entering.

In the most advanced part we have the I / O panel, more compressed than that of the 460X due to two lateral openings for the air intake. It has the following ports:

  • Power button Reset button 4-pole audio and microphone combo jack 2x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A

Since it is a slightly better model in design, it would have been interesting to integrate a USB Type-C in this front.

We go to the right side where we find as always a black or white painted steel panel, depending on the model which will be fixed with two screws to the rear. The sheet has a standard thickness, and behind it is a space of about 3.5 mm for cable management.

The rear area is the same as in all chassis, with its 7 expansion slots, and in this case with the ability to install GPUs in a vertical configuration. It seems silly, but we did not like the fact of having two plates welded in this vertical space instead of the removable ones by means of screw.

And we also did not like it, and this is important, is that we do not have a pre-installed fan in this rear area. One that will be very important for expelling hot air from the vicinity of the CPU and GPU. It always helps a lot to facilitate air flow, and a basic 120mm would have been enough.

The bottom is very similar to the iCUE 220T, with its four oversized chrome legs and the final mesh dust filter in the PSU area. One of high quality and with rails for easy disassembly. Similarly, we see the four screws that hold the hard drive cabinet in the left area, which do not give us the possibility of moving it to the sides.

Interior and assembly

The interior of the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB is exactly the same as that reviewed in the Corsair 275R. You can see it in the Review link that we leave you, because they are two drops of water. In fact, this chassis is only 1 cm higher and 1 cm deeper, so the interior has exactly the same capacity. The good thing about this is that the cable holes are the same and are equally protected, and the same goes for the other elements.

Thus the chassis supports ATX, Micro ATX and Mini ITX size boards, with CPU coolers up to 160mm high. If we are going to install dedicated graphics cards, we will have up to 370 mm available even with a front liquid cooling system installed.

The double compartment system means that we have a metal cover fixed by pins and that supports ATX power supplies up to 180 mm long, which can be easily inserted even with the HDD cabinet installed and this is a great advantage in terms of compatibility.

The rear passenger compartment is slightly tilted inwards at the front for more room for cables or hard drives. We don't have any advanced cable routing system, this is visible to the naked eye.

Storage capacity

In fact, we are going to continue precisely with the storage possibilities of the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB, which once again will be identical to the mentioned chassis.

We will start with the most obvious part, which is the traditional metal cabinet. It supports two 3.5 ”or 2.5” units, and has easily removable plastic trays for convenient installation. Of course, we do not have anti-vibration rubbers for mechanical discs.

Now we go to the back of the board, where we have those two brackets that support 2.5 ”HDD or SSD drives. These are also removable by loosening a manual thread screw that secures them.

Finally, two lateral openings have been enabled in the area closest to the front to install two other 2.5 ”HDD or SSD units. This will be the area, let's say, optional, since we prefer the other two for their better location and ease of use.

Refrigeration

The cooling capacity of Corsair iCUE 465X RGB remains unchanged compared to the 275R, so let's see what it offers us or what are the best options.

Let's start by citing the space available for fans:

  • Front: 3x 120mm / 2x 140mm Top: 2x 120mm / 1x 140mm Rear: 1x 120mm

One of the most important aspects is that we have three Corsair LL120 RGB fans pre-installed with their corresponding iCUE Lighting Node Core lighting controller valued at 100 euros if purchased separately. The benefits they provide us are PWM control capacity from 600 to 1500 RPM, with a flow of 43.25 CFM and a static pressure of 1.61 mm-H2O. Its bearings are hydraulic and generate a maximum noise of 24.8 dBA.

If you look at the fan located on the front, the circumference is adjusted to the integrated lighting ring. Facing the possibility of installing 140 mm fans, it is feasible, although part of the blades will be covered by metal. In any case, I don't consider it a good chassis for large fans.

In the upper area, as we already mentioned in the other chassis, there is physically space for two 140mm fans, what happens? Well, the chassis is narrow and the location of the opening causes the profile of the second fan to hit the motherboard, whatever for design reasons.

The only drawback I see is that we do not have rear fans nor does the controller have PWM control for these fans, nor a hub to connect them all together. The consequence, we must use the headers located on the motherboard, which on the other hand will allow us to control its operating profile. Of course, if we install more fans we tend to follow the same assembly guidelines.

The cooling capacity is as follows:

  • Front: 120/140/240/280 / 360mm Top: 120/140 / 240mm Rear: 120mm

The expected for the measurements we have, and of course we would recommend all-in-one cooling with 360 or 240 mm radiators. Note that in the side area there is a lower hole with a hole distribution compatible with custom refrigeration tanks such as the Hydro X from Corsair. The problem is that the fans cover part of this gap, so it won't do much. We do not recommend it for custom mounts, because we are going to have space problems.

illumination

Another obvious advantage of the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB chassis is that the manufacturer has installed what has been the 3-pack of LL20 fans with a Corsair Lighting Node Core controller located in the rear area. This pack is available in the market independently for a price of 100 euros, so it is a great addition for the price at which this tower will go on the market.

This controller does not provide PWM control for the fans, it only directs the LED lighting of the two rings of each fan. It has 6 proprietary 4-pin headers that will only be able to address manufacturer's RGB fans. It is, let's say, the most basic controller of the brand, then there are the Node Pro and finally the Commander Pro.

We can take advantage of its 6 headers to buy another three fans and mount a complete RGB lighting system on this chassis. The controller is compatible not only with the LL120, but also with the rest of the manufacturer's variants such as the somewhat more basic LP120 Pro. With Corsair iCUE software we can manage this controller when we connect it to the internal USB 2.0 port of the board.

Installation and assembly

Now we are going straight to the assembly of our example bench in Corsair iCUE 465X RGB, which consists of the following elements:

  • Asus Crosshair VII X470 ATX motherboard and 16GB RAMAMD Ryzen 2700X memory with RGB stock heatsink AMD Radeon Vega 56PSU Corsair AX860i graphics card

The assembly that we have made is a high-end AMD-based with ATX board and a good-sized or hot enough GPU. To say that we did not have any problem during the assembly of the chassis, a PSU like this of 160 mm has entered perfectly into the hole and there is still room to put enough cables.

With the three holes for pulling cables plus the corner for the CPU we will have more than enough for a standard mount. In case the PSU does not fit, we will have to forcibly remove the disk cabinet, since we will not be able to move it to one side due to space and functionality limitations.

The internal connectors provided by the chassis are as follows:

  • Controller internal USB 2.0 connector (board) SATA power connector (PSU) 3x 4-pin fan headers (board) USB 3.1 Gen1 header (board) 2x F_panel reset and boot connectors (board)

We have clips to manage the wiring, but we do miss some more sophisticated velcro strips and small rails for the main ATX connector cable bundle. We have had the equipment running for a while and the inlet air flow has been very good, but the drawback comes in the back, we do not have a fan. We recommend that you put one, at least basic for air extraction.

Final score

Let's now see the result with the entire chassis assembled and in operation:

Final words and conclusion about Corsair iCUE 465X RGB

For our taste the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB is the chassis with the best aesthetics of those presented by the manufacturer for this price range. Based on the Crystal 460X but with improvements in cooling and two colors available for a price much more adjusted than the € 167.90 that the aforementioned is worth.

With glass panels on the front and side and a very good level steel chassis that will allow us to install high-end hardware inside, except for E-ATX plates. The space is large enough for a comfortable and completely clean assembly in the visible area. As always, we would like a better cable management in the back, but we understand that the price of the chassis is in itself very tight.

One of its big bets is the incorporation of a system with three Corsair LL120 RGB fans together with an iCUE Lighting Node Core controller that supports up to 6 fans. This pack is worth 100 euros by itself and generates a perfect air flow in the front entrance. The best thing is that we can manage it from the iCUE software, but unfortunately it does not have PWM control for the fans.

We recommend reading the best chassis on the market

The chassis supports up to 6 120mm fans, but we don't have one pre-installed in the rear, which I consider a clear disadvantage due to its price. Also missing as an accessory is a hub to connect the fans to the PSU if our board does not have enough headers.

In general, I really liked the end result, so colorful and purely gaming of the chassis, and the white color has to be even better. The dust filters are of high quality and all of them are well mounted and designed. A factor that would improve the exterior appearance would be to change the large screws to fix the panels for a more sophisticated system.

We finish with the price and availability of the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB. The chassis will be on sale from September 17, 2019 for a price in Europe of € 124.90, we imagine that in the Corsair official store. Surely in other stores the price is a little lower after a few days. We definitely recommend it for everything it offers us.
