Corsair Mac Memory So-DIMM: unboxing and design
Corsair makes a very minimalistic presentation with a cardboard box and a very striking cover. Inside we find the memories protected in a plastic blister.
The memory has a small one that indicates that it is the CMSA8GX3M1A1600C11 model. The pack consists of two DDR3L modules of 8GB each, which make a total of 16GB at 1600MHZ Mhz and CL11 latency with a voltage of 1.35V.
This kit is compatible with the majority of high-performance equipment released by Apple: iMac, Macbook Air / PRO and MAC PRO. We can also see that the chips are exclusively designed by Corsair.
The memory really does not have any cooling system and it does not need it either , because these memories are especially fresh (even at high performance). So you don't have to worry.
Difference Between DDR4 Memory vs. So-DIMM
Already entering our performance tests, we have installed on a 27 ″ inch iMac 5K from the end of 2015. The "modest" version only has 8GB and we have been able to expand it to 24 GB without any problem of compatibility . Final words and conclusion
Corsair has done a great job with its Corsair Mac Memory with SO-DIMM connections and DDR3L interface. Specifically, we have had the 2x8GB pack that makes a total of 16GB at 1600 MHZ that have done a great job and above all, absolute compatibility with the latest generation iMac 5K.
We believe that in any performance equipment the 8GB of RAM that comes standard may be insufficient, an upgrade to 16 or 24GB gives a lot of play to both graphic design, video or rendering . So we see a 100% recommended product for this task. In our tests we have been able to see quite good results with the Geekbench benchmark.
Currently we can find them in Spanish online stores in two pack format: 16GB Kit (which is the one analyzed) or 8GB Kit at a price of 71 euros and 41 euros respectively.
