Crucial X8 is a new portable SSD with readings of up to 1, 050 MB / s
As the price of solid state storage falls, more manufacturers are starting to offer portable drives in SSD format instead of a hard drive inside. The latest to enter the market is Crucial, with the Crucial X8 portable solid state drive.
This new unit, according to the manufacturer, stands out for its reliability and portability.
Crucial announces the X8 as a perfect external storage solution for PCs or Macs, video game consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, Android tablets and smartphones.

The X8 Portable SSD is capable of 1, 050 MB / s read speeds, which Crucial says is 1.8 times faster than similar portable SSDs. There is a caveat that performance will be highly variable and Crucial measured speed using a high-performance desktop PC and the Crystal Disk Mark (x64) application. It will be faster than an external hard drive, but the speeds that are accessed will depend on the configuration and the desired use.
Crucial has not shared the dimensions of the unit, but the images confirm that it is small enough to fit in a pocket and durable enough to withstand a drop of up to 20 meters. The housing is designed to dissipate heat quickly, but also allows the indoor unit to be shock and vibration proof.
Crucial X8 is backed by a three-year limited warranty. The 1TB variant (CT1000X8SSD9) is priced at $ 164.95 and the 500GB variant (CT500X8SSD9) priced at $ 119.95.
