Today is December 24, Christmas Eve and tomorrow, December 25, Christmas. Perfect days for the bad guys to start sending all kinds of scams through social networks and messaging services (especially WhatsApp) because it is the most popular. That is why we want to remind you that especially between today and tomorrow, be careful with Christmas WhatsApp scams.

Beware of WhatsApp scams for Christmas

More scams are circulating than you think these days. A few days ago we were talking about a WhatsApp scam that offered users free internet. It ended up being another scam that sought to steal the data of the users and that they subscribe to premium SMS, to charge them and make a profit. Below we will tell you what to do in case this happens to you.

Another scam that we told you about days ago, was the one related to the Apple ID that is easier to steal than it seems. If you are careful with Apple falling into the trap, they are perfect days to snack because we are more distracted and busy and we click on what we receive almost without looking. What this scam does, is send you an email posing as Apple saying that there is a problem with your account and that you have to verify data, at that time, when entering your data to solve the problem, they keep it.

So be very careful with the WhatsApp scams and social networks to which you will be exposed this Christmas. Be wary of:

  • Messages on WhatsApp that have a link. Never click on something you are not sure what it will be, ask your friend or research online. It could be a virus. If you click on a link and something is downloaded… do not install it under any circumstances, it could be a virus willing to infect your smartphone. Verify that the URL has https and is who it says it is. If you receive an email like the previous one posing as Apple, check that this email is from Apple and that the web is also (and not a copy).

If you fall into the trap of subscribing to premium SMS, contact your operator immediately.

Happy Holidays!!
