Watch out! fake ryzen processors sold on amazon

An elaborate scam has been perpetrated on Amazon by two users who had happily purchased an AMD Ryzen processor.

The fake Ryzen is actually an Intel processor

What appears to be a very well-organized fraud has been leaked on Amazon through the complaint of two users, who claim to have received a fake processor. In a very short period of time, two users have reported receiving a fake Ryzen processor and both have indications that they were orchestrated by the same person (s).

While Amazon offered rebates and even a gift card, these types of scams could harm those teams of less experienced users.

The processor in question is not even from AMD, it is from Intel and uses an LGA socket. The scammer managed, in some way, to remove the Intel marks on the top of the package and place the Ryzen mark, as can be seen in the images. At first glance nobody would notice the difference, until it is time to place it on an AM4 motherboard.

  • The first reported case of scam was posted on reddit by user sh00ter999, about 9 days ago on July 8, 2017. At the time, it appeared to be an isolated case.

  • The second instance reported was posted on reddit two days ago on July 15 and presented the same problem as before.

Since both processors have exactly the same heatsink (which is not the official wraith heatsink) with unique and outdated design and since both processors have the same fake Ryzen markings placed on the package, we could assure you that this is the same person or group responsible for this fraud.

These are probably not the only cases to be published and more fake processors must be swarming on Amazon right now.
