Security problems also come to IP cameras. At least to those of the Chinese manufacturer Foscam. Recent research has discovered several vulnerabilities in two of its models.
Vulnerabilities discovered in Foscam brand IP cameras
A total of 18 vulnerabilities have been discovered in these two models. One of them is the Foscam C2 and the other is Opticam i5 HD, from a brand owned by Foscam. Although they are not the only ones, since there are other brands in which there are potential vulnerabilities. Among them Thomson, Nexxt, Sab and 7Links. And so up to 14 brands in total.
What vulnerabilities are they?
Among the 18 vulnerabilities detected by the analysis we can find that the credentials (configuration) that comes by default are not secure. They also refer to hard-code credentials. But the main problem for users is that they do not have the possibility to change these credentials. Why? Because Foscam uses so-called "hard-coded", which only the manufacturer can change and not the user. Since it is a measure to avoid attacks, although it is ironic that this is causing problems.
We recommend the best security cameras
These vulnerabilities make it possible for the camera to be hacked remotely. So attackers gain access to it and can gain access to information. It is not known if there are users who have been affected by this fact.
Foscam received a warning of the potential dangers existing months ago by the security company that has made this study. But the Chinese company did not give any response. They have also not released any security patches for users. Therefore, users who have a Foscam camera are currently unprotected. We expect more data on this soon and a reaction from the company.
