Detected a Trojan that infects your pc due to a vulnerability in powerpoint

PowerPoint presentations have long been a way to spread malware via email. They still are. And they currently make use of them by taking advantage of the vulnerability CVE-2017-0199. A security flaw that was detected and corrected last April.

The failure in question was detected in Windows Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) of the Microsoft Office office suite. Because of it, any hacker could remotely execute code on such vulnerable systems. Now, security experts have found the first Trojan to exploit this same vulnerability.

Now they take advantage of it by using much more advanced malware. The Trojan arrives in an email with a PowerPoin t presentation. When you open the file, the Trojan runs. This then downloads a file from the server and then the RATMAN Trojan is downloaded. With it, the pirate already achieves the permissions to execute the code remotely.

When the Trojan has infected the computer, the hackers already have complete control of it. Therefore, they can install other malware or take over all the information on the computer. Or even carry out DDoS attacks. In short, many options, and none of them good for the user.

The key to avoiding falling into this danger is not to open any unknown email. And much less download or open the attachments they send us. Be it PowerPoint or other formats. Also, if you have installed the latest Microsoft security updates, there should be no problem as the vulnerability was fixed in April. If you have not installed the latest security patches, do so now.
