Amazon FreeRTOS is an operating system for my microcontrollers designed to facilitate the programming, deployment, protection, connection, and management of small, underpowered edge devices. It is based on the FreeRTOS kernel an open source operating system. A security researcher has now discovered various security flaws in it.

Serious security flaws detected in Amazon FreeRTOS

A total of thirteen serious security flaws have been discovered in it. Due to these, attackers could access affected devices, and leak information from memory.

Security flaws in FreeRTOS

According to the researcher, in the most serious flaws of all, it would even be possible to remotely execute code on the affected devices, allowing attackers to have full control of the affected device. Research has revealed that these security flaws affect FreeRTOS versions up to 10.0.1, in addition to AWS versions up to 1.3.1.

The responsible company already knows about these failures in the system. In fact, security patches were planned to be released later this week, although their release has been delayed. So this may be the reason.

So it is possible that soon there will be a new security patch that protects against these security flaws in FreeRTOS. In addition, they did not want to reveal the specific details of the vulnerabilities, to allow time for them to be solved by the company. We hope to know more soon.
