Directx 12 will partially work with current hardware
Last week Microsoft announced some of the features and news of the future Windows 10, in addition to confirming that the update will be free for the first year for owners of Windows 7 and Windows 8 / 8.1. Thanks to this, users of these versions of the operating system will be able to enjoy DirectX 12 without having to spend a euro on software, although it is not clear what will happen to the hardware.
According to Microsoft, some of the features of DirectX 12 will be compatible with much of the current hardware compatible with DirectX 11. Specifically, the new API will work, at least partially, with Nvidia graphics cards based on the Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell architectures, with AMD cards based on Graphics Cone Next (GCN) and GPUs integrated in the Intel Haswell and Broadwell microprocessors.
With all this it is not at all clear to what extent current GPUs are going to support the new API and what benefit they are going to be able to get from it.
