Directx 12 won't narrow the gap between ps4 and xbox one
Table of contents:
Xbox One users wait for the arrival of Windows 10 and DirectX 12 to their system like May water, hoping that with the update the Redmond console will be able to handle games more comfortably at Full HD resolution and with a more stable framerate, something that It would narrow the gap with Sony's PS4.
In this sense, the wccftech guys have published an interesting article in which they conclude that Windows 10 and DirectX 12 will not reduce the difference in performance between the two consoles for various reasons.
Currently both consoles already use a low-level API that allows you to take advantage of resources in a much more efficient way than what can be done on a PC where you work with a high-level API (DirectX 11). Specifically, Xbox One currently uses a version of DirectX 11.x created especially for the console and that already has many of the features of DirectX 12, so the transition from one API to the other will not be much less noticeable than in a PC.
Added to this is the fact that the PS4 GPU is more prepared to work with asynchronous shaders, a key feature in the performance improvement that DirectX 12 offers and that it seems that the Xbox One GPU is not very prepared to take advantage in this regard.
In addition we must not forget that PS4 uses a GPU with more gross power than that of Xbox One and this can not change it. Let's also not overlook that PS4 will receive the Vulkan API which also promises better access to low-level resources by improving its performance in a similar way as DirectX 12 does.
conclusion
The conclusion is that both Xbox One and PS4 will receive new APIs that can slightly improve their performance thanks to a better use of resources, PS4 has a more powerful GPU so it will always have that advantage and DirectX 12 will not bring to the Xbox One advantage enough to compensate for its lower gross power. In any case, we must wait to see the first games to see how the performance of both consoles evolves.
What do you think of the subject? Do you think Xbox One will outperform PS4 with DirectX 12?
