One of the most popular cloud data storage services for years, Dropbox, has started to implement some restrictions for those users who have a free account. To be more exact, Dropbox has limited to a maximum of three devices the use that users of a free storage plan can make of this service.

Dropbox: now only three devices

Dropbox users who have a free Dropbox account are now limited to using that account on a total of three devices, as recently reported from the service's own website.

According to Dropbox, as of March 2019, the month in which we are already, “Basic” users, which is the free level, can add their account to three devices. Dropbox users who already have their account associated with more than three devices can keep them linked, but there will no longer be the possibility of linking additional devices once the limit of three devices has been exceeded.

Until now, there has been a free tier for Dropbox users, with no restrictions other than the available storage space (2 GB that could be expanded progressively and free of charge by inviting other new users).

The new limit of three devices will undoubtedly make Dropbox's free plan less attractive to users who use it more widely, although on the other hand, it could also stimulate updates for more intensive users.

To get unlimited device sync, Dropbox users will now have to upgrade to a Dropbox "Plus" or "Professional" account. Plus is priced at 9.99 euros per month and includes 1TB of storage, while the Professional plan costs 19.99 per month for 2TB of storage.
