Ea sports ufc: the ultimate martial arts game

Mixed martial arts are double-released: they jump to! octagon of the next gen and they do it from the hand of EA.

More than 100 real boxers gather at EA's debut with the UFC license, the most popular competition in mixed martial arts. A debut that leaves bittersweet sensations, despite recreating this phenomenon like no game before.

If we start with the good, UFC recreates the fighting environment and the anatomy of boxers like you have never seen before, but the rest is at a lower level. Control is somewhat limited, with mechanics that the game itself does not explain well, as everything related to what happens on the ground (which are a kind of cat and mouse game).

It uses a system more or less similar to that seen in THQ's UFCs, with the 4 front buttons for attacks, the right stick for closings and looking for positions on the ground, etc. The differences between fighters are limited to some stats to, for example, subdue the fastest opponent on the ground, but there are no major differences either in their punches or in the way they are executed (they are a bit flat). But the worst thing is that the collisions and the physics do not transmit the hardness of the blows, despite having blood and KOs.

The game modes, meanwhile, suffer from something similar: there is hardly any depth. It offers fast, online combat (free games, ranked matches and tournaments), a challenge mode with 90 tests to learn to master control or an excessively linear career mode that only lets us choose how to assign new hits and improvement points to our fighter when he climbs of level.

Create your own UFC beast

UFC has a character editor (seriously, do not expect transsexuals with makeup), in which we can choose appearance, blows, protector. In addition, we can even create three strategies to change them according to combat, activating abilities such as causing more damage with fists, etc.

  1. Everything is taken care of, from the presentations of the speaker, the intervention of the referee, the pre-combat controls, the hostesses with the posters of the rounds. You have not seen such a detailed game before. The wear of the fighters will be noticed on their faces: cuts, bruises, blood… that will even splash the opponent's body.

THE RACE MODE. Recreate various stages of the competition, such as our time on the television show "The Ultimate Fighter" that is broadcast in the USA.

THE EDITOR. It doesn't offer crazy options, and it's more or less everything you need, from appearance to choice of shots or distribution of points by area.

TACTIC. We can create three strategies, to change them in combat. They are like the classes of shooters, enhancing certain skills.

THE FOUNDATION. Of the blows it is something that has not been achieved either: claws that skid, slow and short blows.

Options for everyone

UFC has curious modes and options. In Challenges we must pass 90 training tests to master control, while Spotlight shows replays of battles, tutorials and even UFC videos.

It has interesting ideas, such as Fightemet (to see the achievements of our friends) or Spotlight, which shows the replays of the best online battles, tutorials. Still, the UFC will appeal to most fans of the sport, but it needs to improve for future editions. They already have the technical part (despite not going to 1080 Qp or 60 fps), they just need to "get fat" with options.

Final assessment

The best

  • The recreation of both fighters and the environment that surrounds the fighting. The squad of fighters, with more than 100 to choose from. There are recent promises and myths that still survive.

Worst

  • Little "chicha" both in control and in game modes. It's simple, the career mode is excessively linear and the player hardly intervenes, only to improve the fighter. Very eye-catching thanks to the Ignite engine, although some animations and transitions sing, it doesn't go at 60 fps. Eclectic BSO sound with licensed themes of all kinds, great ambient sound and English commentators. The modes are pretty flat and limited, including the career mode, where there are hardly any decisions. At first it engages, but soon becomes limited and somewhat repetitive. Some techniques are confusing.
