eBay and PayPal split into two separate publicly traded entities in 2015, after being part of the same company for 12 years, yet they signed a five-year contract to maintain a relationship until mid-2020. Now eBay has announced that it will bet on Adyen as the default payment platform.

PayPal will no longer be the default payment option on eBay

eBay has signed an agreement with Adyen to become its main payment processing partner, it is an Amsterdam-based company that offers its service to companies such as Netflix, Spotify and Uber among others. Adyen will offer an integrated solution within eBay, meaning that you will not have to log in to a different website to carry out transactions.

Thanks to this, users will have a more fluid experience and comparable to Amazon when making payments. This new eBay payment system will arrive in North America starting in the second half of this year, before expanding in 2019 and each following year until 2021 when the transition will already be almost fully completed.

PayPal will continue to be a payment option until July 2023, although it will no longer be the default option as it is right now. PayPal fell 10 percent on the stock market after the announcement.
