83% of the routers of the main brands are targeted
The American Consumer published an article with more than 186 different brands and types of routers including Asus, AVM, Belkin, Cerio, D-Link, Linksys TrendNet, NetGear, Sierra Wireless, TP-Link, Yamaha and Zyxel. Among all the routers that were tested, in total, they found 32, 003 vulnerabilities in 155 vulnerable devices (83%), while the remaining 23 (17%) did not contain security problems. Of all the vulnerabilities, 28% were considered high risk and critical.
The study also highlights the dire consequences of Wi-Fi router manufacturers leaving IO devices unpatched for known vulnerabilities and the urgency for these manufacturers to allocate more resources to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities in open source in order to Reduce security threats that put consumers, infrastructure and the economy at risk.
