Apple watch will have support for third-party watch faces
Table of contents:
One of the main limitations of the Apple Watch is the impossibility of installing watch faces or spheres that have been designed by third-party developers. Fortunately, as the watchOS 4.3.1 code reveals, this could be numbered.
Apple Watch will be even more customizable
Since Apple Watch was introduced, many developers have claimed the possibility of creating their own watch faces, as well as many users who would like to have more dials with which to give a more unique and personal touch to your watch. Currently, it is only possible to use the spheres provided by Apple itself, some of which include content from Pixar, Disney or Nike, but nothing else. As pointed out by 9to5Mac, the reasons why the apple company does not allow third-party watch faces can be many, including Apple's desire to control the use and brand experience as much as possible.
However, the code found in watchOS 4.3.1 suggests that this limitation may be nearing its end. A component of the NanoTimeKit framework, responsible for the Apple Watch spheres, implements a developer tool server that is likely designed to communicate with Xcode running on a Mac. One of its methods has a very interesting log message:
The message makes it clear that this feature has not yet been implemented, although it also makes it clear that it is something that Apple is considering, at least.
This new feature could appear as soon as watchOS 5, but it could also be completely dropped. With Apple you never know so, there will be no choice but to wait.
