Given the great media impact that Apple's iPhone X has had thanks to the incorporation of Dace ID technology for facial recognition, it is more than likely that from now on, many smartphone manufacturers will decide to implement a similar technology in their next phones. And one of them will be, of course, the South Korean giant Samsung that, although it was already ahead of those of the bitten apple integrating a facial recognition technology in the Galaxy S8 of 2017 last April, it was soon abandoned to oblivion thanks to certain reports that the system was easily fooled by a high-resolution photo. But Samsung, we already know, does not give up.

Samsung will incorporate new and better technologies

According to a recent report, Samsung may be trying to improve its commitment to facial recognition technology for its next flagship. According to the Korean news website ETnews, Samsung is investing in improvements to both its facial recognition technology and iris scanning technology with an eye toward the 2018 Galaxy S9. According to this report, Samsung's goal would be "Increase the speed of iris recognition and facial recognition while maintaining the same specifications and basic part structure" as in the previous generation.

And quoting an anonymous source belonging to the sector, ETNews points out that "It is an attempt to show something different from the previous one in addition to increasing the speed of simple recognition, there may be new plug-ins through software applications."

Unlike the Apple version, which uses 3D imaging, the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, and Note 8 facial recognition maps 2D images, which is why it can be tricked by a photograph. Therefore, it seems that Samsung is trying to improve the system in terms of usability, and not security, making use of the same basic components, including the previously used 8 MP camera.
