Star Wars Battlefront II was released in 2005, achieving great popularity that led it to maintain an active multiplayer community until 2014, when it ended when the closure of GameSpy deactivated the official multiplayer support of the game.

Star Wars Battlefront II returns to official online mode

Now Disney has decided to rescue the title and continue exploiting it, nothing better for it than to re- enable multiplayer on Steam and GOG, with cross-play enabled. This is the second time Disney has re-enabled multiplayer support in an old Star Wars PC game, the first being Star Wars: Empire at War last month.

Without GameSpy, Battlefront II players were able to use multiplayer mode "unofficially" through services like GameRanger, although this program required an annoying installation process. Now Disney has brought multiplayer support within the game itself, eliminating the need to play with external applications. With this update, the game's multiplayer mode has been updated to support up to 64 players, including the original's five multiplayer modes such as Conquest, Assault, Capture Flag and Hunt modes.

For many players, this is still considered the best Battlefront that has been developed to date, well above the new title created by EA and DICE that will receive its second version this year.

To celebrate Star Wars Battlefront II is available at GOG with a price of only 3.39 euros.
