Google is preparing to announce a completely revamped version of Google Earth. The company has already sent invitations to journalists to attend an event scheduled for April 18, just 4 days before the celebration of Earth Day.

New Google Earth: Possible news

For now there aren't too many clues as to what we could expect for Google Earth, but we'll probably see a new design in the app, or even more VR content.

The company also has a version called Google Earth VR, which until now has only a few predetermined locations, such as New York's Manhattan neighborhood, the Amazon river or the Swiss Alps, so the new Google Earth could bring more improvements in this section, possibly with more virtual reality content.

On the other hand, it is also possible that the company will unveil new updated satellite images for multiple places that have not been updated for a long time, or even news about ocean exploration.

Google Earth was launched in 2001 under the name of EarthViewer 3D, and in recent years it was a very interesting tool to explore different places on Earth and see different points of interest or even street names. Since it became Google Earth in 2005, the platform debuted numerous interesting features, such as a flight simulator or the ability to explore the entire Solar System and other astronomical bodies, in addition to the integration of Street View.

However, lately Google Earth has been overshadowed by Maps, which has been integrating most of its functions in addition to offering many others.

The fact that Google holds an event dedicated only to the Earth tool is a clear indication that the company has no plans to end this product, and at least for me it is good news since I usually use the application quite frequently in my mobile.
