Microsoft's implementation of the Windows 10 1809 update has been a difficult road as has become the custom in these major updates. On October 2, the company was so confident that it released the update directly to the public. Four days later, it was removed from Windows Update servers because some files were removed when updating.

Later, issues related to ZIP archive extraction were reported. While the solution to that is in testing with Insiders, those who installed the update through production channels are still left with no solution. But as reported by Brad Sams of Petri, the delay not only affects consumers, it also affects hardware manufacturers, and in a more significant way. For one thing, it's causing devices to ship with software that doesn't actually support hardware on those devices.

Windows 10 1809 adds support for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 chipset and Intel's ninth-generation Core processors. Unfortunately, devices on the market that use these chips, like Samsung's Galaxy Book2 and Lenovo's Yoga C630, are still shipped with Windows 10 1803. That means these devices are using an untested version of the operating system. Presumably, when Windows 10 version 1809 arrives, the performance and stability on these devices will improve.

There is also a problem with marketing and promotional materials. Companies cannot say a device is shipping with the Windows 10 October 2018 update, if it is shipping with the April update. Hopefully Microsoft will have Windows 10 version 1809 ready soon.
